Position Summary

The IT Network Engineer II is responsible for the design, administration, support, security, and continuous improvement of the Bank’s network and infrastructure environment. This role supports core network services, server and virtualization platforms, identity and access systems, communications platforms, and branch connectivity to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient technology operations across the organization.

The IT Network Engineer works closely with internal teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to implement infrastructure solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, maintain system availability, and support the Bank’s cybersecurity and operational resiliency objectives. This position is expected to contribute to infrastructure planning, documentation, monitoring, incident response, change management, and technology modernization initiatives.

This is not a remote position.

Essential Functions

  • Administer, maintain, and support the Bank’s network and infrastructure systems, including routing, switching, firewalls, remote access, wireless, and branch connectivity.
  • Support the security, availability, and performance of infrastructure platforms, including servers, virtualization environments, voice systems, storage, and file/print services.
  • Administer core Microsoft infrastructure services, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and related identity and access management technologies.
  • Monitor health infrastructure, system performance, logs, alerts, and trouble tickets; respond to incidents and service requests in a timely manner.
  • Assist with design, implementation, and support of infrastructure and cybersecurity projects.
  • Perform system setup, maintenance, upgrades, patching, backups, and recovery support for servers and network equipment.
  • Support branch, regional office, operations center, and disaster recovery connectivity and infrastructure needs.
  • Troubleshoot network, server, and application connectivity issues and coordinate resolution with internal teams and third-party vendors.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, asset inventories, diagrams, standards, procedures, and support records.
  • Participate in infrastructure planning, testing, change management, and business continuity/disaster recovery efforts.
  • Provide high-quality technical support and customer service to employees across the organization.
  • Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure reliability, security, standardization, and operational efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter resource for network and infrastructure technologies, including routing, switching, firewalls, VPN, wireless, virtualization, and VoIP.
  • Design, implement, and support secure network infrastructure solutions aligned with business and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise for infrastructure upgrades, refreshes, expansions, and remediation efforts.
  • Assess current systems and recommend architectural, operational, or security improvements based on business needs and technical risk.
  • Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and internal stakeholders to resolve incidents and complete projects.
  • Communicate technical issues, root causes, risks, and resolution status clearly to users, leadership, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with written technical documentation, project materials, procedures, and support documentation.
  • Review daily operational logs, alerts, and ticket queues to identify and address issues proactively.
  • Support asset lifecycle management, including hardware/software inventory, licensing, standards, and recordkeeping.
  • Crosstrain with other IT support areas as needed to provide backup coverage and strengthen team capability.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CCNA certification required; additional networking or security certifications are preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in network administration, infrastructure support, or systems engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience troubleshooting routing, switching, firewall, and connectivity issues in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience administering Windows Server environments and enterprise infrastructure platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in banking, financial services, or other regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with Jack Henry systems or other financial institution technology platforms.
  • Experience with infrastructure security controls, endpoint/server hardening, vulnerability remediation, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Experience with cloud-connected or hybrid environments, including Microsoft 365, Entra ID, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with network monitoring, configuration backup, performance management, and log analysis tools.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise networking concepts, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs, NAC, firewalls, wireless, and network segmentation.
  • Strong knowledge of client/server infrastructure and systems administration principles.
  • Experience with technologies such as:
    • Cisco Catalyst and/or Meraki
    • Firewalls, IDS/IPS, and secure remote access platforms
    • Cisco UCS or comparable computer platforms
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2019/2022 and successor versions as adopted by the Bank
    • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, IIS, and related Microsoft infrastructure services
    • VMware or other enterprise virtualization platforms
    • Storage Area Networks and backup/recovery technologies
    • VoIP and unified communications systems
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Understanding of infrastructure security principles, patch management, least privilege, system hardening, and operational resiliency.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical documentation and communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work effectively with users at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Working Conditions

  • Travel within the Bank’s network footprint as required, primarily day travel with occasional overnight travel.
  • Must be available to work overtime and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Work may include physically accessing equipment in confined or dusty spaces and lifting equipment or materials up to 50 pounds.
