Job Description

Project Engineer

\n

📍 Downtown Chicago, IL

\n

🏗️ Commercial General Contractor | Ground-Up + Interiors | Local Projects

\n

\n

I’m partnered with an established commercial General Contractor in downtown Chicago that’s looking to add a Project Engineer to its growing team.

\n

\n

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career who wants broader exposure to how projects are actually managed from start to finish. Rather than being assigned to one small piece of a massive project, you’ll support several projects at once and gain hands-on experience across preconstruction, construction, and closeout.

\n

\n

The company handles a mix of ground-up construction, interior buildouts, renovations, and adaptive reuse, with projects spanning retail, hospitality, mixed-use, multifamily residential, office, industrial, and education. The variety gives you the chance to build a well-rounded foundation while figuring out which types of projects you enjoy most.

\n

\n

What You’ll Be Doing:

\n

    \n
  • Support Project Managers across multiple active projects
  • \n

  • Gain exposure to projects from preconstruction through final closeout
  • \n

  • Manage RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, and project documentation
  • \n

  • Assist with buyout, procurement, change orders, and cost tracking
  • \n

  • Coordinate with Superintendents, subcontractors, architects, and consultants
  • \n

  • Help maintain project schedules and track key milestones
  • \n

  • Gain increasing responsibility as you progress toward an APM role
  • \n

\n

\n

What They’re Looking For:

\n

    \n
  • 1–3 years of commercial construction experience
  • \n

  • Project Engineer or similar experience with a General Contractor
  • \n

  • Experience with a mid-sized or smaller GC preferred
  • \n

  • Exposure to ground-up, interiors, renovations, or similar commercial construction
  • \n

  • Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail
  • \n

  • Someone who wants to learn the full project lifecycle rather than being siloed into one area
  • \n

\n

\n

Compensation & Benefits:

\n

    \n
  • 💰 $75K–$100K base salary
  • \n

  • 💵 5% bonus paid quarterly
  • \n

  • 🏥 100% employer-paid healthcare
  • \n

  • 🌴 Unlimited PTO
  • \n

  • 📍 All Chicagoland projects — no travel required
  • \n

  • 🏗️ Exposure to both ground-up and interior construction
  • \n

  • 🔄 Opportunity to support multiple projects simultaneously
  • \n

  • 📈 Full-cycle project exposure with a clear path for continued progression
  • \n

\n

\n

If you’re a Project Engineer with 1–3 years of experience looking for more variety, greater project exposure, and the opportunity to build a strong foundation for your next step, I’d love to tell you more.
