The Test Technician operates and tests Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) to ensure they are assembled correctly and perform reliably before shipment to customers. This role involves running AGVs through defined testing protocols, monitoring simulations of customer systems, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues, and repairing returned or in-house assemblies. The Test Technician documents all tests and results for engineering review and supports pre-shipment preparation to deliver high-quality, fully validated vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Run Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) through established testing protocols to verify proper assembly and performance for customers.
• Monitor simulations of customer systems and track setups to validate AGV reliability and functionality.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical and mechanical issues on powered vehicles, identifying and resolving problems before delivery to customers.
• Collaborate with power-up technicians, assembly teams, and engineering when issues arise, using vehicle schematics and assembly drawings to guide troubleshooting.
• Differentiate between vendor-supplied parts and in-house components when failures occur, report issues to quality, and coordinate replacement of defective parts.
• Perform component-level troubleshooting and repair on moving industrial equipment, machinery, hydraulics, electrical equipment, or mechanisms.
• Use computer skills to configure and adjust components, such as updating IP addresses on sensors and related devices.
• Repair and debug parts returned from customers or assemblies that were not properly built in-house, ensuring they meet performance standards.
• Document all tests, results, and issues in a clear and organized manner using tools such as Excel or Word for engineering review and traceability.
• Participate in daily stand-up meetings at 7:00 a.m. to receive assignments and priorities for the day.
• Proactively seek direction from the team lead when tasks are completed or priorities need clarification.
• Support pre-shipment activities by cleaning vehicles, changing fluids such as gearbox oil, touching up paint, applying decals, and ensuring vehicles are ready for shipment.
• Ensure all work follows safety guidelines and quality standards while maintaining attention to detail throughout the testing and repair process.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of test technician experience working on industrial equipment, machinery, hydraulics, electrical equipment, or mechanisms, specifically on equipment that moves.
• Strong mechanical testing and troubleshooting skills for complex industrial or mobile systems.
• Strong electrical testing and troubleshooting skills, including working with voltage and electrical components.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and assembly drawings.
• Experience documenting tests and results using software such as Excel or Word.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair at the component level on moving equipment.
• Computer literacy sufficient to configure and adjust components, such as changing IP addresses on sensors.
• Understanding of higher-voltage battery systems, including voltages around 480V and high-current chargers (for example, 30 amp chargers and 800 amp-hour systems).
• Prior experience with Hilo equipment or Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical training in a relevant field such as Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical training including military experience.
• Familiarity with AGV systems and their operational environments.
• Comfort working with higher-voltage electrical systems and industrial battery chargers.
• Strong communication skills to work effectively with power-up technicians, assembly teams, engineering, and quality.
• Attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing, troubleshooting, and documentation.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, follow standardized procedures, and adapt to changing priorities.

Work Environment

This role follows a primary schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the potential for 10-hour days and occasional Saturday work that is not frequent. The workday includes two paid 15-minute breaks, typically around 8:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and one unpaid 30-minute lunch around 11:30 a.m. The environment centers on testing and preparing Automated Guided Vehicles in a hands-on, industrial setting that involves powered equipment, electrical and mechanical systems, and use of computers for configuration and documentation. The position offers 6 paid holidays and 1 week of paid time off, supporting a balanced work-life structure while working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on quality and reliability.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
