Job Description

Job Description

The USPS Windows Engineering team designs, automates and standardizes every Windows server across the Postal Service. This is an engineering role, not operations: a separate Windows Operations team handles day-to-day support, while this team builds the processes, standards, documentation and automation they run on.

We’re looking for an early-career architect: a strong systems engineer ready to grow into architecture, who takes initiative and isn’t locked into one technology.

What you’ll do

  • Build and refine automation for Windows server provisioning, including an AWX/Ansible pipeline that builds VMs in vCenter end to end from a request form
  • Take architected projects from non-production testing through promotion to production
  • Write the standards, processes and documentation the operations team follows
  • Run SQL queries and scripts to report on and validate the environment
  • Use Tanium for endpoint visibility and management across the server fleet
  • Track performance and health metrics and share them with stakeholders
  • Coordinate with vendors and support other teams, including cloud, when needed

First 90 days
Help finish three automation projects that are already designed and tested, and get them promoted to production. Blueprints exist, so you won’t start from a blank page.

Required

  • Hands-on Windows Server engineering experience
  • VMware vCenter / vSphere
  • Scripting or automation experience: PowerShell, Ansible or Python
  • Bachelor’s degree, or 4+ years of equivalent professional experience
  • U.S. citizen, or green card holder with 5+ years of U.S. residency

Strong plus

  • Ansible / AWX (Ansible Tower)
  • T-SQL queries
  • Tanium
  • Cloud experience: AWS, Azure or GCP
  • AI or generative AI tools in infrastructure work
  • Linux / UNIX
