Job Description

We are seeking a Network Systems Specialist for a four month data center project in Reno, NV.

The Network/Systems Specialist is the senior technical resource on the customer deployment. Working on-site across all three data hall modules, this person oversees cabling quality, leads field configuration and troubleshooting, and supports the installation technicians. The role works closely with the Project Manager/Site Lead and technical team to keep the deployment on plan.

The ideal candidate has experience working in data center environments and is comfortable moving between physical installations, cabling and connectivity troubleshooting, and device-level configuration such as IPMI/BMC, BIOS, and firmware updates.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review the patching matrix and elevation drawings with the technical team before cabling begins, and confirm cable routing, slack, fiber handling, and access to management connections.
  • Oversee cabling work across the three modules, including SM fiber, Cat6a copper, and breakout fibers, and verify connections against the port matrix.
  • Perform IPMI/BMC configuration and BIOS validation on compute nodes, including testing on a sample of nodes and spot-checking BIOS settings.
  • Lead field troubleshooting, including smart-hands network troubleshooting and L1 connectivity repair (approximately 40 hours per module in scope).
  • Provide technical direction and support to the installation technicians working in parallel across modules.
  • Support device smoke-testing and configuration validation in the pre-staging areas.
  • Work with the Logistics/Inventory Coordinator on RMA coordination and asset documentation.
  • Contribute to daily standups, quality reviews, and the daily burndown report, and raise issues and blockers to the Site Lead early.

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of hands-on data center networking and systems experience.
  • Working knowledge of data center switching and cabling, including fiber optic and copper cabling practices.
  • Experience with IPMI/BMC configuration and server BIOS settings.
  • Experience troubleshooting physical-layer (L1) connectivity issues.
  • Ability to read and work from elevation drawings, patching matrices, and network topology diagrams.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and comfort working alongside customer and general contractor teams.
  • Ability to work on-site full-time for the duration of the deployment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the equipment in this environment: NVIDIA SN5610 switches, Arista edge equipment, Palo Alto security appliances, and Opengear console servers.
  • Experience with large-scale rack and stack or AI/HPC cluster deployments.
  • Experience supporting multi-module or multi-site deployments on compressed timelines.

Working Conditions

  • On-site in a data center environment, including lifting and extended periods of standing and working in racks.
  • Standard hours of approximately 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with a team standup at 8:00 AM. Weekend or after-hours work is outside the base scope.
