Summary

We are seeking a high-performing IT Systems Administrator who will also serve as a Solution Architect for a fast-paced, 24/7 manufacturing environment. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining and optimizing our enterprise systems while architecting scalable and secure IT solutions that align with business goals.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, forward-thinking, and comfortable working across infrastructure, applications, and business units. They will also mentor and support the Level 2 IT Support Specialist and coordinate with the company’s MSP to manage infrastructure operations and ensure service excellence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Systems Administration & Support

• Install, configure, monitor, and support physical and virtual servers, storage solutions, and networked systems.
• Administer and support Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy in hybrid on-prem/cloud environments.
• Manage Office 365 and Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, Azure AD).
• Perform system health checks, security reviews, and performance tuning.
• Lead and validate backup, disaster recovery, and failover processes.
• Coordinate system upgrades, patching, and firmware updates with minimal downtime.
• Provide advanced (Tier III) technical support and troubleshooting as needed.
• Serve as backup on-site network support and coordinate with MSP for escalations and project delivery.

Solution Architecture & Project Leadership

• Design and implement scalable infrastructure and cloud-based solutions that meet operational and security requirements.
• Lead infrastructure projects from requirements gathering to implementation and handoff, including new software platforms, server builds, integrations, and migrations.
• Collaborate with the IT Director to identify technology needs, propose improvements, and develop the IT roadmap.
• Translate business requirements into secure, efficient, and cost-effective technical solutions.

Collaboration & Vendor Management

• Act as the technical liaison between internal stakeholders and external MSP teams for infrastructure, system maintenance, and security operations.
• Monitor MSP SLAs and assist the IT Director in holding vendors accountable for timely and high-quality service delivery.

Team Development & Mentorship

• Provide training, technical guidance, and daily mentorship to the IT Support Specialist (Level 2).
• Develop and document SOPs, knowledge base articles, and system administration best practices.
• Promote a collaborative and knowledge-sharing culture within the IT team.

Security & Compliance

• Implement and maintain system security protocols, endpoint management tools, and compliance with cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, CIS, etc.).
• Ensure system integrity, change control documentation, and proper role-based access controls.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 7+ years of experience in systems administration or infrastructure engineering, preferably in manufacturing or 24/7 operations.
• Strong experience with Windows Server, VMware, Hyper-V, Microsoft 365, Azure, and backup/DR tools.
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing IT solutions that support scale, security, and performance.
• Familiarity with manufacturing business systems (ERP, MES, WMS, etc.) is a plus.
• Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and project execution skills.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and build team capability.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.

Preferred Certifications (not required but strongly desired):

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator / Solutions Architect
• CompTIA Server+, Network+, or Security+
• VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
• ITIL Foundation
• Cisco CCNA / CCNP
