We are seeking an experienced IBM i RPG Developer to develop, maintain, and enhance business applications within an IBM i / AS400 environment.
The ideal candidate will have experience with RPG, Java, and WebSphere. However, strong RPG experience is the primary requirement, and candidates with hands-on experience with RPG III or newer versions are encouraged to apply.
This position will also provide guidance and supervision to a small team of approximately 2–3 developers.
This role is onsite in Follansbee, WV, 5 days/week.
Responsibilities:
- Work with end users and internal stakeholders to gather application and system requirements.
- Translate business requirements, specifications, and technical designs into working application code.
- Develop, modify, maintain, and enhance RPG-based applications.
- Compile, test, troubleshoot, and debug programs to ensure they meet functional requirements.
- Analyze existing code to identify and resolve application errors and performance issues.
- Maintain documentation related to programs, specifications, system changes, and enhancements.
- Design application interfaces and integrations with other systems.
- Review user and technical documentation for accuracy and consistency with application functionality.
- Provide technical support and troubleshoot issues involving applications and systems.
- Modify existing programs to support corrections, enhancements, and changes to the system environment.
- Train end users and technical support staff on application functionality and support procedures.
- Maintain and enhance software originally developed by other programmers.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and support to a small development team.
- Follow established quality policies, objectives, and applicable QS 9000 procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required
- Hands-on experience developing and maintaining applications using RPG III or newer.
- Experience working within an IBM i / AS400 environment.
- Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, debugging, and enhancing existing applications.
- Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Comfortable providing guidance or supervision to 2–3 developers.
- Must be able to work 100% onsite in Follansbee, WV.
Preferred
- Experience with Java application development.
- Experience with IBM WebSphere.
- Experience working with RPG IV, RPGLE, ILE RPG, or other modern RPG environments.
- Experience supporting and integrating enterprise business applications.
Important: Java and WebSphere are preferred but are not required for candidates with strong RPG experience.
