Project Engineer - MEP (HVAC/Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing)
Position Overview
We are seeking a results-driven Project Engineer with MEP expertise to support planning, coordination, and delivery of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and piping systems for commercial and industrial building projects. The Project Engineer will work closely with project managers, design teams, contractors, and clients to ensure projects meet schedule, budget, quality and safety objectives. Ideal candidates combine technical knowledge of HVAC and MEP systems with strong construction coordination and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Support project lifecycle from design review through commissioning, ensuring MEP systems meet performance, code and client requirements.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers to develop installation sequences, detailed drawings and shop fabrication packages for mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
- Review design documents, perform constructability reviews and produce Request for Information (RFI) and change order documentation as required.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, track progress, and communicate status to project management and stakeholders.
- Prepare technical submittals, equipment specifications, and material take-offs; assist in procurement and vendor selection for HVAC and piping equipment.
- Perform site visits to monitor installation, verify quality, troubleshoot field issues, and ensure compliance with drawings and standards.
- Support commissioning, testing and start-up activities for HVAC and MEP systems, including witness tests, prepare punch lists and closeout documentation.
- Maintain accurate project documentation including drawings, approvals, daily reports, and as-built records; enforce safety and quality procedures on site.
- Assist in budgeting, cost control, and progress reporting; identify risks and recommend mitigation measures to keep projects on scope and budget.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Project Engineer or similar role on MEP construction projects, with exposure to HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and piping systems.
- Familiarity with MEP design principles, building codes, HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, controls and electrical distribution.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical, electrical and plumbing drawings; experience with Revit, AutoCAD and/or BIM coordination tools is highly desirable.
- Strong coordination and communication skills with ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors and clients.
- Experience preparing RFIs, submittals, equipment specifications, material take-offs and commissioning documentation.
- Good understanding of construction scheduling, cost control, quality assurance and site safety practices.
- Problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional certifications (e.g., EIT, PE, LEED, HVAC controls) or relevant trade experience are a plus.
