Geodesicx is hiring an enterprise platform engineer to build, automate, and sustain Red Hat OpenShift environments supporting Naval and Marine Corps systems at NIWC Atlantic. The underlying engineering challenge will be familiar to professionals from retail, e-commerce, fulfillment, logistics, financial services, manufacturing, telecommunications, and other large-scale commercial environments: keep a distributed, mission-critical platform standardized, secure, available, recoverable, and easy to operate.
This is a platform administration and automation role - not primarily an application developer role. You will own and improve the shared OpenShift platform on which application teams deploy their workloads. The strongest candidates combine hands-on OpenShift or enterprise Kubernetes administration with Ansible automation and can troubleshoot across RHEL, containers, networking, storage, registries, and deployed applications.
COMMERCIAL AND RETAIL TECHNOLOGY CANDIDATES ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. Previous government or defense experience is not required, and you do not need an active clearance when you apply. You must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance for this role.
What You Will Do
- Administer and troubleshoot production Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform clusters, including single-node and multi-node deployments.
- Use Ansible and Infrastructure as Code to automate installation, configuration, validation, patching, upgrades, backup, recovery, and operational health checks.
- Create and maintain reusable Ansible playbooks, roles, inventories, collections, configuration files, and custom Execution Environments.
- Standardize deployments across bare-metal, virtualized, cloud, distributed, and limited-connectivity environments.
- Manage container images, operators, Helm charts, Quay or mirrored registries, oc-mirror, and OpenShift Update Service.
- Configure and troubleshoot OpenShift networking, DNS, API and ingress endpoints, virtual IPs, load balancing, routing, persistent storage, and cluster services.
- Diagnose incidents across RHEL, Kubernetes, OpenShift, containers, registries, networking, storage, automation, and deployed applications.
- Integrate platform automation with Git-based configuration management, GitLab, and CI/CD workflows.
- Support release integration, platform testing, installation validation, continuity planning, and recovery exercises.
- Create practical playbooks, installation guides, diagrams, troubleshooting procedures, and release documentation; share knowledge with engineering and integration teams.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, cybersecurity, government, and partner teams during planning, technical reviews, integration events, and demonstrations.
Candidate Preferences
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Hands-on production administration of Red Hat OpenShift; substantial enterprise Kubernetes experience combined with RHEL and Ansible may be considered if you can transition quickly to OpenShift.
- Experience using Ansible or comparable infrastructure automation to create repeatable, supportable platform configurations.
- Working knowledge of RHEL, Kubernetes resources, containers, operators, registries, Helm, cluster networking, and persistent storage.
- Ability to troubleshoot integrated platform, infrastructure, networking, storage, registry, and application issues through resolution.
- Experience with Git-based configuration management and CI/CD workflows.
- OpenShift RedHat certification/training
Especially Valuable - But Not Required
- An active DoD Secret clearance or previous DoD, Department of the Navy, or NIWC experience.
- Experience operating technology for retail stores, e-commerce, point-of-sale, inventory, fulfillment, warehouses, distribution, logistics, or supply-chain environments.
- Experience supporting 24x7, customer-facing, transaction-intensive, multi-site, edge, or highly available platforms.
- Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, Automation Controller, Private Automation Hub, Ansible Builder, or custom Execution Environments.
- Disconnected or air-gapped OpenShift deployments, including software and image preparation for restricted networks.
- Azure, AWS or AWS GovCloud, automated cloud provisioning, Quay, OpenShift Data Foundation, or LVM Storage.
- HashiCorp Terraform, Vault, Boundary, or Consul.
