The Commonwealth of PA is seeking an Azure Data Warehouse Developer to support a Data Modernization Initiative aimed at enhancing public health policies and interventions. This role involves the design and development of a modern Azure-based data warehouse, supporting the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) in managing large-scale data initiatives. The position is primarily remote, with occasional in-office meetings (at least once a month).
Responsibilities:
Develop and support the analysis and reporting needs of the DOH/DDAP.
Modernize the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) architecture, transitioning to Azure technologies like Databricks, Delta Lake, Synapse, and Azure Data Factory.
Design and implement scalable data lakes, databases, ETL/ELT processes, and reports using SQL Server, T-SQL, and Python.
Support high-volume data processing and statistical analysis for public health surveillance and intervention planning.
Participate in business and technical requirements gathering, and ensure alignment with program objectives.
Manage and track assignments, coordinate with teams, and ensure compliance with federal and state standards.
Provide training and knowledge transfer on system maintenance and troubleshooting.
Develop and maintain documentation (technical, process, procedural) for all systems and projects.
Participate in status and review meetings with stakeholders, and ensure deliverables are met on time and within scope.
Key Skills and Experience:
5+ years of experience in Azure Data Warehouse Development.
Expertise in Azure technologies: Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Apache Spark, and Python.
Strong knowledge of SQL Server, T-SQL, ETL/ELT tools, and SQL Server Integration Services.
Experience in CI/CD pipeline management using Azure DevOps.
Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts: relational databases, dimensional modeling, star schemas, and data engineering.
Proven ability to analyze business requirements and translate them into optimized technical solutions.
Ability to manage multiple projects independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in a similar role, specifically as an Azure Data Warehouse Developer.
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field (Advanced studies preferred).
Strong background in data modeling, reporting, and data analysis methodologies.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
