Position: Class A Quality Technician

Industry:

  • Commercial precision machining

Primary Responsibilities

  • Inspect precision CNC-machined parts using blueprints and travelers.
  • Perform first-article and in-process inspections.
  • Use precision measuring equipment including:
    • Micrometers
    • Calipers
    • DCC CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine)
  • Program and operate CMM and Keyence inspection systems.
  • Prepare AS9100D First Article Inspection (FAI) reports.
  • Monitor production quality and communicate issues with CNC operators and management.
  • Train junior quality technicians.
  • Lead the Quality Department when the Quality Manager is absent.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read complex blueprints.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Experience inspecting extremely close tolerances (as tight as ±0.0003 inch).
  • Strong experience with:
    • CMM programming
    • CMM operation
    • Keyence systems
  • Good Excel skills.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.

Experience Required

Either:

  • High School Diploma plus 10+ years of Quality Control experience in a precision machining environment,

or

  • Associate Degree or Technical Certificate plus 5+ years of Quality Control experience.

Ideal Candidate

The best candidate would have experience in:

  • CNC machine shops
  • Aerospace machining
  • AS9100 quality systems
  • CMM programming (PC-DMIS experience is a plus)
  • First Article Inspection (FAI)
  • Tight-tolerance machining
  • Blueprint reading and GD&T
  • Leadership or supervisory experience

Recruiting Assessment

This is not an entry-level QC Inspector position. It is a senior "Class A" Quality Technician who can work independently, program CMM equipment, prepare aerospace documentation, and lead the department when necessary.

If you are recruiting for this position, I would focus on candidates with:

  • 8–20+ years of CNC machining quality experience.
  • Aerospace or medical manufacturing background.
  • Strong CMM programming skills.
  • AS9100/FAI experience.
  • Excellent blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
