Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Radiographic Testing (RT) Level III to lead and oversee all radiographic inspection activities within our accredited aerospace NDT laboratory. This individual will serve as the Level III for Radiographic Testing and provide technical leadership, procedure development, personnel qualification, customer support, and regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate will possess extensive experience performing and supervising radiographic inspection of aerospace castings, weldments, and fabricated components using X-ray and Gamma Radiography techniques while ensuring compliance with customer specifications, NAS-410, ASTM, AWS, ASME, FAA, and Nadcap requirements.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining our reputation for technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the Level III for Radiographic Testing.
  • Develop, approve, revise, and maintain RT procedures and work instructions.
  • Interpret customer specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Provide technical guidance to Level I and Level II inspectors.
  • Review radiographic techniques for optimum image quality and productivity.
  • Establish exposure techniques for complex aerospace components.
  • Review and approve radiographic technique sheets.

Inspection Responsibilities

Perform and oversee radiographic inspection of:

  • Aerospace investment castings
  • Sand castings
  • Permanent mold castings
  • Aluminum, steel, stainless steel, titanium, nickel, and cobalt alloys
  • Weldments
  • Fabricated assemblies
  • Pressure-containing components
  • Structural components

Using:

  • X-Ray
  • Gamma Radiography (Iridium-192, Selenium-75, Cobalt-60 as applicable)
  • Film Radiography
  • Computed Radiography (CR)
  • Digital Radiography (DR)

Interpretation

Evaluate radiographs in accordance with customer specifications including:

  • ASTM standards
  • AWS D17.1
  • ASME Section V
  • AMS specifications
  • Customer specifications
  • Prime aerospace specifications

Interpret indications including:

  • Shrinkage
  • Porosity
  • Gas holes
  • Hot tears
  • Cold shuts
  • Inclusions
  • Cracks
  • Lack of fusion
  • Lack of penetration
  • Weld discontinuities

Personnel Qualification

  • Train, mentor, and qualify RT personnel.
  • Develop written examinations.
  • Administer practical examinations.
  • Conduct annual vision examinations.
  • Maintain NAS-410 qualification records.
  • Certify RT personnel.

Quality System Responsibilities

Maintain compliance with:

  • Nadcap AC7114
  • FAA Repair Station requirements (if applicable)

Radiation Safety

Serve as technical resource regarding:

  • Radiation safety practices
  • State licensing requirements
  • Dosimetry
  • Source accountability
  • Exposure calculations
  • Controlled areas
  • Emergency procedures

Coordinate with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) as required.

Customer Support

  • Review customer purchase orders.
  • Participate in customer technical meetings.
  • Assist with quoting unusual inspections.
  • Resolve technical inspection issues.
  • Support customer audits.

Continuous Improvement

  • Improve inspection efficiency.
  • Reduce repeat exposures.
  • Optimize techniques.
  • Improve throughput.
  • Recommend new equipment.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Level III in Radiographic Testing (RT).
  • Minimum 10 years radiographic inspection experience.
  • Minimum 5 years aerospace inspection experience.
  • Extensive experience inspecting aerospace castings and weldments.
  • Experience with Gamma Radiography.
  • Experience with film interpretation.
  • Experience with Digital Radiography preferred.
  • Ability to interpret complex aerospace specifications.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Level III certifications in:

  • Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Visual Testing (VT)

Experience with:

  • FAA Repair Stations
  • Nadcap Accreditation
  • AS9100 Quality Systems
  • Aerospace Prime approvals

Compensation

In accordance with California law, the anticipated salary range for this position is $85,000 to $125,000 annually, depending on qualifications, certifications, experience, and overall fit for the role.
