The Perception Software Team, within the Software & Controls Engineering Department, is seeking a Perception Software Engineering Intern to join our effort to develop solutions for space robotics, planetary landing, and satellite sensing applications. In this role you will contribute to designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining applications and algorithms. You will collaborate with world renowned experts in perception, robotics and space applications across NASA, industry, and university centers and gain experience with cutting edge methods as you move them from the lab to real use cases.

Applicants should have demonstrated interest and experience in:

  • Programming Languages: C, C++, Python
  • Environment: Linux, Docker, Git
  • Domains: Robotics, Computer Vision, AI/ML, Software Engineering
  • Preferred Background(s):
  • Background in sensor processing, robotics, and guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) systems.
  • Technical knowledge of perception algorithms including computer vision, 3D pointcloud processing, state estimation, sensor fusion, SLAM, etc.
  • Experience working with various sensor modalities, including camera, LiDAR, radar, IMU, GPS.
  • Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) including spatial transformations, map projections, and digital elevation models (DEMs).
  • Experience training and deploying deep learning models for AI/ML applications.
  • Experience using Eigen, NumPy, OpenCV, Open3D, Matplotlib, Pandas, PyTorch.
  • Relevant publications or targeted research / industry experiences.
