Job Description:
Our Project Services team is looking for a highly consultative COBOL Developer to join a diverse financial project focusing on enhancements. If you enjoy working through complex applications and are looking for long term career opportunities, let’s connect!
What you will do:
• Design and develop enhancements for complex software components of the business application systems, utilizing available Mainframe development tools in a fluid environment.
• Ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards.
• Monitor application performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize COBOL code.
• Conduct code reviews to maintain code quality. Working on scalability and efficiency improvements.
• Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to understand financial requirements. Enhance system functionality based on evolving business needs.
• Create technical-change documentation while staying compliant and following government regulations.
• Create unit testing results documentation, client migration documentation and software security impact analysis documents for COBOL applications.
• Define and establish test data
• Create, execute and review test plans
• Participate in unit testing, system/integration testing and client acceptance testing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless data flow between systems.
• Support, troubleshoot and resolve issues/defects reported by end-users.
• Provide production support during system implementation and ongoing operations.
• Attend daily agile scrum meetings providing succinct updates.
What you bring:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
• 12 - 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with proven work experience as a COBOL Developer, CICS Developer, MVS/JCL, DB2 within a financial domain in a mainframe environment.
• Experience with lending systems is strongly preferred, along with familiarity with financial processes, accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.
• Candidates be detail-oriented, analytical, and able to work independently.
• excellent communication skills are critical as we collaborate with multi-functional client stakeholders
• Daily Experience using Endevor Software Change Management used for mainframe applications
o Checking out components.
o Add/Edit Components.
o Compile Components.
o Migrate Components.
o Create Packages to migrate code to different environments.
o Casting Packages.
o Verify Packages were installed successfully.
Preference given to those who:
• Have Intertest or Expediter experience with Batch COBOL and CICS COBOL debugging.
• Experience with VSAM files in a mainframe environment.
• A background specifically with the student loan industry.
• JIRA experience applying daily work hours and daily updates to features and stories for each project.
• Experience with SDLC and Agile Methodologies.
