Senior Systems Engineer | Boston Operations Lead (Leadership Track)
Job Description
Job DescriptionAbout Boston Managed IT
Boston Managed IT (BMIT) is a managed IT and security services provider based in Waltham, Massachusetts. We support small and mid-sized businesses throughout Greater Boston, primarily organizations with 25 to 100 employees.
Our clients rely on us to manage, secure, and improve their technology environments, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, networking, endpoints, and cybersecurity.
We're a small, experienced team that values technical expertise, accountability, and strong client relationships. Our clients work directly with engineers who understand their businesses, know their environments, and take ownership of problems from start to finish.
We believe great IT support is about more than closing tickets. It's about building trust, preventing problems, and making technology work better for the people who depend on it.
About the Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer who wants to grow into leading our Boston operations.
We're preparing for a planned leadership transition in 2027 and want to bring the right person onboard well ahead of that change.
Rather than expecting someone to take over on day one, we've designed a structured transition that provides the opportunity to learn our clients, systems, processes, and team while gradually assuming more responsibility.
You'll work alongside our current Boston lead, gaining firsthand experience with our client environments and daily operations before taking ownership of service delivery throughout the region.
This is a unique opportunity for a technically strong engineer who enjoys solving challenging problems, building client relationships, and taking the next step into leadership without giving up hands-on technical work.
This is not a traditional help desk role. It's a senior engineering position with a clear path into operational leadership.

Because you'll eventually lead local service delivery, reliable availability for onsite client work and a strong understanding of the Greater Boston area are important.
Why Join BMIT?
Many senior engineering positions promise growth but offer little clarity about what comes next.
We're approaching this differently.
We're hiring someone specifically because we have a leadership transition planned, and we want to provide the time, knowledge, and support needed to make that transition successful.
You'll have the opportunity to:
-
Build meaningful client relationships instead of being an anonymous technician in a large support queue.
-
Make technical decisions and influence how services are delivered.
-
Remain hands-on with interesting engineering and security challenges.
-
Develop leadership skills while working directly with experienced colleagues.
-
Help shape the direction of our Boston operations as the company continues to grow.
We value practical experience, curiosity, clear communication, and people who take pride in their work.
If you're the engineer everyone turns to when something complicated breaks, and you're ready for a role with more ownership and a clear next step, we'd like to hear from you.

We keep our hiring process straightforward and respectful of your time.
