Job Summary: The Maintenance Specialist II is responsible for performing general and preventive maintenance, construction, and repair duties of assigned City equipment, City property to include streets, coverts and drainage systems, facilities and buildings. The Maintenance Specialist II may be assigned to assist with site restoration, solid waste, streets and drainage, or water/wastewater. The Maintenance Specialist II may be assigned a Maintenance Specialist I for assistance. Assignments may be performed in all weather conditions.
Maintenance Specialist II Minimum Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least two years of hands on / outside work experience
- A valid driver’s license but may require Class B CDL depending on assignment.
Essential Job Functions:
- Operates and maintains a variety of standard power tools, equipment and vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks and equipment to perform assigned duties including but not limited to picking up and delivering materials/supplies, collecting and removing debris, trash or hazardous material and deposing appropriately, maintaining daily upkeep of City right of ways, property and vehicles as assigned.
- Perform routine construction, maintenance and repair on the City’s streets and drainage systems, facilities, equipment and buildings and updates record of work orders/projects.
- Ensure general housekeeping of work areas and assigned City vehicles, equipment, etc.
- Respond to road service and traffic control response as required on-call including hazardous and severe weather conditions.
- May assist with repairs, inspections, excavation, site restoration of any and all City owned water, wastewater, storm water infrastructure.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
***If a candidate does not meet the minimum requirements for Maintenance Specialist II, they may be offered the entry level position of Maintenance Specialist which starts at $17.827 per hour:
Maintenance Specialist I Minimum Job Requirements:
- At least one year of hands on / outside work experience
- A valid driver’s license but may require Class B CDL depending on assignment.***
Knowledge of:
- Plant materials.
- City geography including street locations.
- Department safety rules and procedures.
Skills in:
- Working under stress and using good judgment in emergency situations.
- Tactfully responding to requests and inquiries from the general public.
- Establishing effective working relationships with employees.
- Following written and oral instructions.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
The employee must have the ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull greater than 50 pounds, and may require infrequent lifting of greater than 100 pounds. This position is exposed to extreme elements including extreme heat and/or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, noise intensity level, moving mechanical parts/hazards, dirt/dust, and odors. Constant use of protective personnel equipment including but not limited to footwear, eyewear, and use of reflective clothing is required. Will work on-call rotation and in an emergency event.
