Job Title: Information Technology Specialist

Reports To: Information Technology/GIS Director

Position Summary: Responsible for providing help desk tier 1 technical and troubleshooting support, and installation/configuration of end user devices and peripherals. Coordinates with other department members, with emphasis on coordination with other Information Technology Specialist, on day-to-day duties. Assists other members with projects, duties, and tasks as assigned.
Essential Functions:
- Provide technical support for end users. Provide the highest quality of support.
- Maintain IT inventory management. Assist with inventory audits.
- Provide training for users on how to use IT assets.
- Process account activations and deactivations including account, email, and MFA.
- Maintain file and share level user security.
- Install, configure, and support desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, audio/video, security cameras, portable devices and all other hardware as assigned.
- Assist with installation, maintenance and troubleshooting wired and wireless equipment. Install, configure, and support end user questions regarding Microsoft Office productivity suite.
- Support Riley County departments specific software including installation, configuration and first line of contact.
- Work as a liaison between Vendors and Departments as needed to resolve issues.
- Perform duties as assigned by IT/GIS Director.
Requirements:
Education: Associates or technical degree preferred. A+ Certification and Network + Certification preferred.
Knowledge and Experience: One year experience as a desktop technician or equivalent required. Detailed knowledge of PC hardware and software is essential, including all Microsoft Windows Operating Systems and Office productivity suites, and knowledge of common business software packages. Strong aptitude in OS repairs, hardware, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass fingerprint background check required.
Appropriate combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the above requirements.
Skills: Ability to understand instructions and communicate both written and orally. Strong analytical, documentation, attention to detail, and organizational skills are required. The ability to learn new technologies quickly, communicate problems with supervisors as they become known, adapt to challenges encountered, strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills, time management and prioritization skills, hardware and software support skills, exercise responsibility when expected, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality are required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moderate noise levels. The position may also require temporary work underneath desks and workstations. Occasional trips outdoors are necessary. The position has the potential to occasionally be exposed to dust.
