The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch Information Technology Division is seeking a Temporary Information Technology Assistant in its Cybersecurity Unit, with a primary focus on perimeter security, remote edge device deployment, firewall operations, and technical support.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

\n


\n

The selected candidate will support the Cybersecurity Unit with perimeter security and operational initiatives across the Judicial Branch, with a focus on remote edge device deployments, firewall operations, connectivity troubleshooting, and security-related ticket support. This position is designed to provide hands-on experience supporting real-world network and cybersecurity infrastructure across remote Judicial locations. Responsibilities include:

    \n
  • Remote Edge Device Deployment: Assist with the preparation, configuration, deployment, and validation of network edge devices at remote Judicial locations. Help coordinate installation activities and verify connectivity following deployment and direct internet access perimeter security.
  • \n

  • Firewall & Network Security Support: Assist cybersecurity and network teams with firewall-related requests, including reviewing connectivity requirements, documenting source and destination information, ports and protocols, and supporting approved firewall rule changes.
  • \n

  • Troubleshooting & Ticket Support: Work with technical teams to investigate network, firewall, and connectivity-related tickets. Assist with gathering logs, documenting findings, performing basic connectivity testing, and tracking issues through resolution.
  • \n

  • Deployment Tracking & Validation: Maintain deployment trackers for remote locations, including equipment status, installation dates, connectivity testing, outstanding issues, and post-deployment validation.
  • \n

  • Network & Security Monitoring: Assist with reviewing network and security monitoring information to identify connectivity issues, device health concerns, and potential security events affecting remote locations.
  • \n

  • Technical Documentation: Assist with creating and maintaining network diagrams, device inventories, firewall documentation, deployment procedures, troubleshooting guides, and operational runbooks.
  • \n

  • Security & Compliance: Support implementation of network security controls consistent with Judicial security requirements and frameworks such as CJIS and NIST 800-53.
  • \n

This position is ideal for candidates interested in cybersecurity, networking, firewalls, and infrastructure technologies who want practical experience deploying and supporting secure network connectivity across a large government environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

\n


\n

Candidates should have:

\n

    \n
  • Basic understanding of computer networking, TCP/IP, firewalls, routing, switching, and network security concepts.
  • \n

  • Either relevant experience in information technology or be actively pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Networking, or a related field.
  • \n

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with an interest in working with perimeter devices, firewalls, and remote-site connectivity.
  • \n

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly document technical work, troubleshooting steps, and issue resolution.
  • \n

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to track multiple deployments, support tickets, and assigned tasks through completion.
  • \n

  • Attention to detail and a collaborative approach to working with cybersecurity, network, infrastructure, and other technical teams.
  • \n

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a professional environment and travel to Judicial locations as needed to assist with technology deployments.
  • \n

  • A valid driver’s license in good standing and the ability to pass a background check.
  • \n

Successful candidates will receive $18.21 per hour plus potential eligibility for health benefits and sick time, depending on hours worked.
