We are looking for a Senior Project Manager to lead complex, high-visibility initiatives within a government environment in Richmond, Virginia. This Long-term Contract position calls for a detail-oriented individual who can coordinate multiple vendors, align diverse stakeholder groups, and keep critical timelines on track across interconnected workstreams. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, effective executive communication, and a proven ability to guide implementation or integration efforts where collaboration and accountability are essential to success.
Responsibilities:
• Direct program-level coordination across several vendors and internal stakeholder groups to maintain alignment on goals, milestones, and delivery plans.
• Produce and manage consolidated status reporting that provides clear visibility into progress, risks, dependencies, and upcoming activities across all workstreams.
• Track interdependencies between external partners and project teams, and address conflicts or blockers before they affect schedule or scope.
• Raise critical concerns, timeline threats, and delivery issues promptly to leadership so that decisions can be made quickly in a fast-paced environment.
• Lead meetings and working sessions that bring together teams with different delivery methods, helping them operate effectively toward shared outcomes.
• Strengthen communication among project participants to reduce misunderstandings and prevent coordination gaps from delaying progress.
• Manage stakeholder expectations through consistent updates, thoughtful planning, and clear follow-through on action items and commitments.
• Support implementation or integration activities by organizing schedules, monitoring milestones, and ensuring vendor efforts remain synchronized with program objectives.
• 5+ years of project or program management experience, including oversight of large-scale initiatives with multiple stakeholders and external vendors.
• Demonstrated success leading implementation or integration projects in complex organizational environments.
• Strong ability to manage vendor relationships while coordinating work across cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the tact and professionalism needed to work effectively with varied leadership styles.
• Experience using formal project management practices to control timelines, risks, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations.
• Familiarity with Agile Scrum and other project delivery approaches, with the ability to adapt across different team methodologies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Project; knowledge of Microsoft SQL is beneficial.
• PMP certification is preferred.
