Our organization is in search of a dedicated, career-focused, and customer-oriented Linux Server Administrator to become part of our team located in Quantico, VA.
This role is essential for supporting the critical IT infrastructure of the Department of War (DoW). The selected candidate will play a key role in the installation, configuration, maintenance, and security of Linux-based server environments across both classified and unclassified networks, ensuring the reliability and resilience of crucial national security resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the installation, configuration, and daily upkeep of Linux operating systems (including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu) in both physical and virtual (VMware) environments under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Support compliance initiatives by implementing DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), performing routine vulnerability patching (IAVAs/IAVBs), and ensuring adherence to Risk Management Framework (RMF) standards.
- Monitor server health and system performance; provide Tier I/II technical support to troubleshoot and resolve common hardware, software, and network configuration issues.
- Utilize and adapt basic automation scripts (using Bash, Python, or Ansible) to carry out routine administrative tasks and system checks.
- Update and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), system logs, and administrative documentation to ensure compliance and operational continuity within the team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field, along with 2–3 years of IT/Linux experience, or alternatively, 4–5 years of equivalent hands-on IT/Linux experience without a degree.
- 1–2 years of practical experience in Linux systems administration (entry-to-mid level), ideally within a federal or DoD setting.
- An active IAT Level II baseline certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE, CCNA Security, or an equivalent certification).
- A basic understanding of essential Linux tools and administrative services (NFS, DNS, SSH, user/group management).
- Familiarity with Linux systems (holding or pursuing a CompTIA Linux+ or RHCSA certification is advantageous).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with DoD security tools such as ACAS, HBSS/ESS, or Splunk.
- Knowledge of basic scripting concepts (Bash, Python) or configuration tools (Ansible).
- Understanding of virtualization fundamentals (VMware vSphere).
Clearance Requirements:
- Must possess an active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance.
Physical Requirements:
- The individual in this role must be capable of remaining in a stationary position for 50% of the time.
- Occasionally, the person may need to move around the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, or to communicate with colleagues, management, and clients through email, phone, or virtual communication tools.
