*This role is remote and will require up to 25% travel. Must live in MI, IN, KY, or AL.*

POSITION NAME: Senior Software Engineer

REPORTS TO: IT Production Manager

EDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelor’s (4-year) degree with a technical major, such as Information Systems, Computer Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Required: 4 - 6 years high level technical support, implementation and development experience, preferably in an automotive manufacturing or industrial setting
  • Required: 3 - 5 years experience in software development, preferably with Python
  • Required: 3 – 5 years experience in project management
  • Required: 3 – 5 years experience in T-SQL development, such as SQL queries, Stored Procedures, or SQL Views
  • Preferred: Experience installing, maintaining, and administering MSSQL Databases
  • Preferred: Experience with equipment integration using OPC Servers

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Technical Leadership

  • Support and lead major software IT initiatives and projects across the organization
  • Lead technical discussions and contribute to architectural decisions
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide innovative solutions
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends

Development & Engineering

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
  • Optimize application performance and ensure system reliability
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle from planning to deployment
  • Design and implement sound data models to support scalability and interoperability between multiple facilities
  • Look for opportunities to integrate disparate systems through the use of data connections, APIs, SAML, LDAP, etc.

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Work with the Engineering and Plant teams to develop applications to meet both customer and internal needs
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing guidance on technical and career development
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Accounting, Engineering, Production, Production Control, and Quality.
  • Participate in agile development processes and sprint planning
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Miscellaneous

  • Collaborate with IT team to learn systems, and complete ad hoc/project work
  • Manage your own work and projects using modern project management tools
  • Support IT software systems that interface with the physical process.
  • Participate in a hotline rotation, which requires you to provide 24-7 hotline support during the week you are assigned to the hotline
  • Other duties as assigned

KEY TECHNOLOGIES AND SOFTWARE:
Must be proficient in the following technologies and software platforms

  • Ignition by Inductive Automation
  • SQL Server, including knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server
  • OPC, including both OPC-UA and OPC-DA
  • BI Analytics with tools such as Power BI, Qlik Sense, or Cognos
  • Familiar with ERP systems, such as CMS, SAP, or QAD

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Responsibilities may require working some evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advance notice. Travel required – up to 25% of the time
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to climb ladders or use lifts to access IT equipment in elevated locations at the plants.
