PROJECT EXECUTIVE - MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION (DATA CENTER)

Midland/Odessa, Texas (on site) | Confidential Search | Full-Time

$200K-$250K base + 20% bonus target + travel and living package

LEAD A LARGE SELF-PERFORMED MECHANICAL SCOPE IN WEST TEXAS.

A privately held national mechanical contractor is hiring a Project Executive to lead its self-performed mechanical work on a data center project in the Midland/Odessa area of West Texas.

THE ROLE

You will provide high-level project oversight and lead the project management team: setting expectations and objectives, owning the financial side of the work, and driving business development, planning and talent development.

You will be the senior leader on site for the mechanical scope, working with the general contractor and owner and reporting to national operations leadership.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

Safety:

- Site walkthroughs and inspections.

- Safety compliance: site-specific safety plans, audits, toolbox talks, pre-task planning and Industry Safe.

Operations:

- Project teams that run documentation, preplanning, project handoff, prefab, job setup, policies, procedures, schedules and resources.

- Project financial performance. Coach PMs ahead of monthly PM reviews and attend them.

- Change negotiations. Coach and lead the team through them and attend as needed.

- Preconstruction. Oversee it or do it yourself.

Leadership:

- Coach, mentor and develop the team; set and manage performance goals.

- Plan workforce needs with other leaders to support the work.

- Recruit and interview to build an effective team.

- Lead and support strategic initiatives for the group, division and company.

Estimating:

- Oversee or perform estimating for project requirements and scope changes, coordinating with suppliers, vendors and subcontractors, using estimating software.

- Oversee or attend pre-bid, page-turn, project turnover and preplanning meetings.

- Oversee or prepare scope and proposal letters.

Financial management:

- Every project on its financial targets, tracked and reported: labor productivity, weekly PDCA, risk management, communications, purchasing, billings, collections and PM reviews.

Relationships and sales:

- Relationships with key owners and general contractors, plus industry associations and networking events.

- Communicate the company's capabilities for future projects and change orders, and attend customer outings and events.

- Lead team proposals, including estimating and proposal writing.

- Plan, track and manage the sales funnel and the resources behind it.

- Drive sales goals and manage key accounts.

WHAT YOU BRING

Required:

- Associate degree in a technical field or journeyman-level certification.

- 10+ years of construction project management experience and advanced knowledge of the building and construction industry.

- Strong understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to read and understand construction documents.

- Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles.

- Business acumen: company operations and financials, business finance, customer relations, business development and sales strategy, and the legal side of construction.

- Project management software (MS Project, SharePoint, Procore or similar), CAD software and MS Office.

Preferred:

- Bachelor's degree in a technical field or construction management.

- Large self-performed project experience: heavy piping and equipment setting on industrial, LNG, power, large healthcare or data center work.

- Union craft experience.

Data center experience is a plus, not a requirement. Large self-performed project experience matters more.

WHY THIS ONE

- Large, complex self-performed work with the backing of a national company.

- A fast-growing, privately held national mechanical contractor: national resources with a local-team culture.

- A real preconstruction handoff: a national precon group hands over how the job was estimated and planned.

- A published bonus formula, so there are no year-end surprises.

- A travel model built to be sustainable, with real support for work-life balance.

COMPENSATION

- Base salary: $200,000-$250,000.

- Annual incentive: 20% of base at target, up to 30% at a 1.5x payout. National groups have historically paid out above target. Formula-based and not guaranteed.

- Travel and living package: about $4,800-$5,000 a month for housing, meals and vehicle.

BENEFITS

- Medical on a national PPO network (high-deductible plan) with an annual company HSA contribution.

- Dental and vision.

- Company-paid life insurance, short-term disability and long-term disability.

- 401(k) with a 100% match on the first 4%, plus profit sharing after one year.

- Vacation from day one: 10 days, growing by a day a year to four weeks (five after 20 years), plus sick time and paid holidays.

- Paid parental leave.

- Education reimbursement up to $5,250 a year after one year.

- Shareholder program for senior leaders after one year.

- Most benefits start the first of the month after 30 days.
