Principal Accountabilities / Objectives:
The Field Technician is responsible for delivering effective support across deployment and maintenance activities. Responsibilities include providing Field Deployment & First Line Maintenance support to a varied customer base. Day-to-day work involves new build deployment tasks, responding to maintenance calls within SLA, fusion splicing, new installations, fault finding, and hardware replacement with TAC assistance. The role also requires adherence to Indigo’s Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fiber and cable pulling, dressing, labelling, and securing.
- Fiber cable termination using Fusion Splicer, including ribbon splicing.
- Installation of metalwork, basket work, and basic rack-and-stack services.
- Develop fault-diagnosis skills using OTDR testing procedures.
- Develop fault-diagnosis skills using Ethernet/OSA testing procedures.
- Copper cable termination, including Cat “x” and E1 terminations.
- Ensure continuity, testing, and measurement of cable and fiber runs.
- Electrical connectivity of 240v AC and up to 48v DC to distribution panels (no power-up until certification).
- Provide First Line Maintenance support for Indigo Telecom Group’s customer base.
- Perform installation and commissioning tasks in both project and maintenance environments.
- Provide OOH (out-of-hours) on-call cover as required by the agreed Rota.
- Complete and submit all paperwork and documentation within SLA.
- Ensure Health & Safety and Engineering Quality standards are consistently maintained.
- Comply with company and local standards, procedures, and protocols, with responsibility for meeting engineering KPIs.
- Demonstrate flexibility to meet business requirements.
- Complete other ad hoc duties as required.
