This role provides technical guidance and mentorship to MBSE team members, establishes and enforces modeling best practices, and leads automation initiatives within the Cameo environment, while remaining actively involved in hands-on model development. The Lead MBSE Engineer serves as the technical authority for MBSE methodologies, Cameo Systems Modeler, SysML, and related automation, collaborating closely with program leadership, systems engineering, software teams, and customers to improve modeling processes and expand digital engineering solutions.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior technical resource for MBSE activities across multiple projects, acting as the primary authority on MBSE methodologies and tools.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to MBSE engineers, and establish, document, and maintain modeling standards, processes, and best practices.
- Lead technical discussions, architecture reviews, and peer reviews to ensure robust and consistent system architecture models.
- Develop, maintain, and refine system architecture models using Cameo Systems Modeler and SysML, ensuring alignment with program requirements and digital engineering objectives.
- Identify opportunities to automate modeling activities and improve engineering workflows, including the development of Cameo macros and other automation solutions.
- Integrate MBSE tools with requirements management, configuration management, and the broader digital engineering environment to enable end-to-end model-based workflows.
- Support customer meetings and provide clear, technical briefings on MBSE efforts, modeling approaches, and digital engineering solutions.
- Collaborate with systems engineering and software teams to ensure MBSE artifacts effectively support system design, verification, and validation.
- Promote continuous improvement of MBSE practices by evaluating new tools, techniques, and standards and recommending enhancements to the organization’s digital engineering ecosystem.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Several years of systems engineering experience, with a strong foundation in complex system design and architecture.
- 5+ years of hands-on MBSE experience, including practical application of SysML and digital engineering principles.
- Deep experience with Cameo Systems Modeler, including model development, management, and configuration.
- Proven experience implementing automation within the Cameo environment, including building and maintaining Cameo macros.
- Experience with Teamwork Cloud for collaborative model management and version control.
- Working knowledge of SysML for system architecture modeling and documentation.
- XML experience, including understanding how model logic translates to XML representations and Cameo structures.
- Python experience for scripting, automation, and integration within the MBSE and digital engineering environment.
- Groovy experience for developing Cameo macros and automating modeling tasks.
- Familiarity with Program of Record (PoR) modeling formats and related standards.
- Understanding of the OD structure and how the associated logic translates to XML and Cameo models.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience leading junior modelers and providing day-to-day technical mentorship.
- Prior lead experience in MBSE or systems engineering roles is a strong plus.
- Ability to conduct clear and persuasive technical briefings for customers and internal stakeholders.
- Strong collaboration skills for working closely with program leadership, systems engineering, software, and other cross-functional teams.
- Ability to identify and implement process improvements to enhance MBSE workflows and digital engineering practices.
Work Environment
This role operates within a collaborative digital engineering environment that relies heavily on MBSE tools and technologies, including Cameo Systems Modeler, SysML, Teamwork Cloud, XML, Python, and Groovy-based automation. The Lead MBSE Engineer works closely with systems engineering, software, and program leadership teams, participating in technical discussions, architecture reviews, and customer meetings. The position involves a mix of focused individual modeling work and interactive team sessions to refine system architectures and automation solutions. The work setting supports modern model-based and digital engineering practices, emphasizing integration between MBSE tools, requirements management systems, and configuration management platforms.
