Job DescriptionSenior Systems Engineer – Custom Automation
Location: North of Philadelphia, PA
Compensation: Up to $65/hr W-2
Employment: Contract-to-Hire or Direct Hire
A leading automation integrator specializing in custom conveyor and material-handling systems is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead the technical development of complex automation projects from concept through installation and customer acceptance.
Responsibilities
- Develop system concepts, architectures, layouts, and technical solutions for custom automation and conveyor systems.
- Work directly with customers, sales, project management, mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing, and field service teams.
- Coordinate mechanical, electrical, controls, and automation system integration.
- Support selection and integration of conveyors, motors, drives, sensors, robotics, vision, PLCs, and other automation components.
- Participate in design reviews, FAT/SAT, equipment testing, installation, startup, and commissioning.
- Troubleshoot complex system-level issues and lead root-cause analysis.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers.
- Support estimating, proposals, and development of new automation solutions.
- Travel periodically to customer sites.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Automation Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in industrial automation, custom machinery, material handling, conveying, packaging, or similar environments.
- Strong understanding of integrated automated equipment and experience working across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and controls documentation.
- Experience taking automation projects from concept through commissioning.
- Strong customer-facing communication and troubleshooting skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred Experience with conveyors, packaging, PLCs, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, VFDs, servos, HMIs, safety systems, robotics, vision, industrial networking, FAT/SAT, and engineered-to-order automation.
