C2 Data Center Network Architect, Lead
Location: Point Loma, San Diego, CA (onsite, 4 to 5 days per week
Clearance: TS/SCI eligibility required (U.S. Citizen only)
Travel: CONUS travel to four data center sites; no OCONUS travel
The Opportunity
Our client is building four classified, greenfield data centers across CONUS in support of the U.S. Navy, carrying voice, video, and data across modern network and security infrastructure. We need a senior, hands-on Data Center Network Architect to lead the technical design and delivery of that network.
This is not a general network engineering role. We are looking for someone who has spent years designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and improving data center networks, and who can take a solution from the first customer conversation through design and into hands-on implementation in the field. You will lead technically, not administratively. You will not be managing people, you will be the engineer the team looks to for answers.
What You Will Do

Meet with customer leadership to understand mission needs and translate them into data center network designs.

Design and model data center traffic using BGP and VXLAN, including data center LAN architecture and topologies.

Improve the current architecture and then help physically implement it across the four data center sites.

Engineer and deploy Spine Leaf fabrics, software defined networking, and iBGP and BGP routing at scale.

Apply next generation firewall and network security concepts, including security policy and traffic shaping across the data center.

Troubleshoot complex issues hands on and mentor the existing engineering team through technical leadership.

Travel to the four CONUS data center locations as required.
Required Qualifications

Deep, sustained experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting data center networks. This is the most important qualification for the position.

Strong hands-on expertise with VXLAN and BGP / iBGP.

Experience with software defined networking (SDN) architectures.

7+ years as a network engineering lead or architect for large enterprise DoD networks.

14 years of total networking experience.

Experience designing highly available data center networks with 20+ distributed spoke sites.

Knowledge of L2 to L4 networking across protocols in multi vendor environments, and of modern network architecture best practices including Spine Leaf.

Greenfield network or data center design experience.

Active TS with SCI eligibility. Prior SCI program experience is not required, but candidates must hold the appropriate investigation and not require a foreign exception package.

DoD 8140 IAT Level II compliance (Security+ or equivalent).

HS diploma or GED.
Experience Level
The Senior labor category calls for approximately 14 years of total networking experience. Candidates with less will be considered if they bring exceptional expertise in data center networking, VXLAN, and BGP / SDN. Current title is not a factor. Senior Network Engineers, Lead Network Engineers, Data Center Network Engineers, Network Architects, and Data Center Architects are all encouraged to apply, provided they are still hands-on.
Certifications
Ideal: Cisco CCIE (Data Center preferred) or equivalent Juniper level expertise. Also viable: a current or previously held CCIE, CCNP, or CCMP, or a demonstrated ability to operate at that technical level. A lapsed networking certification will not disqualify an exceptional engineer.
Nice to Have

Experience supporting enterprise intelligence networks such as JWICS, JADC2, NC3, or C3BMC.

Experience planning and provisioning DISN network transport.

Experience implementing next generation firewalls and SD-WAN.

Experience developing hybrid cloud networks.

Experience with cross domain and multi layer enclave solutions.
