DESCRIPTION:
The IT Standards & Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring that client IT environments are reliable, secure, and aligned with established best practices. This role combines hands-on technical administration with a structured approach to documentation, standards development, and client communication. The engineer will conduct on-site reviews, evaluate systems against ET&T’s standards library (based on CIS benchmarks), and provide actionable insights that reduce operational risk and improve system performance. By maintaining accurate documentation, supporting strategic planning, and collaborating across technical teams, this position plays a critical role in advancing both the stability of client environments and the overall client experience.
EXPECTATIONS
- Ensure client IT environments are consistently aligned with ET&T’s standards library and industry benchmarks (e.g., CIS Controls).
- Maintain the operational integrity & security of core systems including Microsoft 365 tenants, backup and recovery solutions, patch and update compliance, endpoint protection, and network infrastructure.
- Provide accurate, comprehensive documentation of client systems, including inventories, configurations, diagrams, and standards alignment results.
- Deliver timely and professional post-visit communication, including client summaries and internal tickets that clearly document findings, risks, and recommended actions. Effective technical writing and client-facing communication skills are a MUST.
- Collaborate effectively with Account Leadership, Support, and Project Services to ensure identified misalignments are addressed through either remediation or strategic initiatives.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of ET&T’s standards library by recommending updates based on evolving best practices and real-world client environments.
- Demonstrate professionalism on-site by acting as a trusted technical advisor, capable of explaining risks, standards, and solutions in clear, business-relevant terms.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Client Alignment & Standards
- Conduct scheduled on-site reviews of client systems against ET&T’s standards library.
- Identify misalignments (e.g., missing MFA, outdated firmware, unmanaged devices) and document impact.
- Perform gap analysis and provide recommendations for remediation or projects.
Technical Operations
- Administer and maintain Microsoft 365 tenants (users, mail flow, file sharing, MFA, policies).
- Check backups, patch compliance, endpoint security coverage, network uptime, and firmware updates.
- Run and interpret health checks, vulnerability scans, and warranty/renewal reports.
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain accurate and current documentation: diagrams, inventories, and system notes.
- Provide clear post-visit client summaries outlining what was done, what was found, and next steps.
- Create detailed tickets for support/project teams with context, standards reference, and priority.
- Collaborate with the rest of the service delivery team to supply inputs for technical roadmaps, work with support to reduce reactive "noise"," and share insights for project scoping and execution.
Professional Development
