Job Overview
Our client, an organization in the oil and gas industry, is seeking a highly analytical and technically proficient Business Systems Analyst to support its financial and operational planning processes. This role is more business-focused than a traditional IT Analyst III position.
The analyst will provide hands-on functional and technical support for the organization’s planning applications, including Anaplan and Pod2, along with their supporting data integrations and analytics. Working directly with Planning, Finance, Operations, and IT, the analyst will support budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and operational analysis. The work covers application administration, planning model maintenance, data reconciliation, integration troubleshooting, SQL development in Snowflake, Streamlit application development, and Sigma reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Planning Application Support and Administration
- Administer and support Anaplan and Pod2, including configurations, planning models, calculations, business rules, hierarchies, workflows, and user access.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning cycles by preparing and validating data loads, updating models, reconciling results, and resolving issues within business deadlines.
- Translate business requirements into functional specifications and application changes, documenting calculation logic, data requirements, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
- Troubleshoot application errors, unexpected planning results, access issues, and performance problems, and coordinate with vendors when needed.
Data Integration and Validation
- Monitor and troubleshoot data flows between planning applications, source systems, Snowflake, and reporting platforms.
- Develop and maintain Snowflake SQL queries and views for data preparation, reconciliation, analysis, and reporting.
- Investigate missing, duplicate, delayed, or inaccurate data by tracing records through source systems, integrations, transformations, and reports.
- Validate record counts, financial totals, planning assumptions, and dimensional mappings.
- Partner with IT data teams and application owners to resolve pipeline failures and document corrective actions.
Streamlit Development and Sigma Reporting
- Develop and maintain Streamlit applications using Snowflake data to support business workflows, data validation, and planning processes.
- Build and maintain Sigma dashboards and reports, including datasets, calculations, filters, and drill-downs.
- Translate reporting requirements into usable applications and reports, validating results with business owners.
- Troubleshoot reporting discrepancies and performance issues.
Testing, Releases, and Business Support
- Prepare requirements, functional specifications, test scripts, and support documentation.
- Coordinate testing for enhancements, model changes, integrations, and releases, and support user acceptance testing (UAT).
- Coordinate upgrades and configuration changes with vendors and internal teams around planning calendars.
- Provide end-user training and communicate issue status, impacts, and resolution timelines.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual work and improve application reliability.
- Follow change management, access security, documentation, and audit requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- 5+ years supporting enterprise financial or operational planning applications (budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning).
- 5+ years of oil and gas industry experience supporting financial planning, operational planning, or related business applications. This may overlap with the application support requirement.
- Hands-on administration and model maintenance experience with at least one of Anaplan, Pod2, or Enersight. Please identify the platform and your specific responsibilities.
- Understanding of oil and gas planning data, including production volumes, commodity prices, revenue, operating expenses, and capital expenditures.
- Hands-on Snowflake SQL experience (queries, joins, aggregations, views, reconciliation).
- Experience troubleshooting data integrations and pipelines.
- Hands-on Streamlit development connected to Snowflake.
- Hands-on Sigma dashboard and report development using Snowflake data.
- Experience with requirements gathering, functional specifications, test scripts, and UAT.
- Strong root-cause analysis and communication skills.
- Ability to manage concurrent support requests and enhancements.
