Job Title: Data Engineer – Warranty and Market Quality Analytics
Job Description
This role focuses on reviewing and analyzing warranty claims and field quality data to support market quality and safety initiatives for new vehicle models. You will work within a small team of data engineers to handle ad-hoc data requests, validate technical complaints, and support ongoing root cause investigations across multiple vehicle systems. The position combines strong data analytics skills with an understanding of vehicle technology, warranty processes, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
- Review and disposition all warranty claims, customer contacts, and Field Quality Reports by applying engineering fundamentals and knowledge of vehicle technology.
- Analyze failure trends across different vehicle systems and validate the technical relevance of complaints using technical data and structured methodologies.
- Determine root causes for issues across vehicle systems by synthesizing multiple data sources and engineering insights.
- Use data such as OBD data, dealer repair methods, vehicle repair history, factory defect information, QICS and FIC records, vehicle feature configurations, and supplied parts sourcing to validate and disposition claims.
- Complete ad-hoc data requests from internal associates, ensuring timely, accurate, and well-documented responses.
- Conduct weekly audits of FS filters and AI classifications to ensure issues are not missed, leveraging engineering insights and vehicle technology knowledge.
- Conduct weekly reviews of NHTSA Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) and create dispositions based on engineering analysis and reported incidents, including death, injury, and crash events.
- Process overseas and A-Rank QISs within three working days, using engineering fundamentals to identify potential overlap with existing investigations.
- Maintain the A-Rank QIS PD and C/M application upon closure of QISs, ensuring engineering and data accuracy.
- Maintain data request systems and related reporting to support transparency, traceability, and consistency of analytics outputs.
- Handle sensitive warranty and safety information with strict confidentiality and professionalism.
- Collaborate with design, engineering, and quality teams to support ongoing investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills
- 2–8 years of relevant data analytics experience, or a minimum of 3 years in analytical or information analysis roles, depending on education level.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when working with large and complex datasets.
- Proficiency in data management and reporting, including building and maintaining structured data processes.
- Advanced Excel skills for data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
- SQL skills for querying, transforming, and analyzing data from relational databases.
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple concurrent requests.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to present findings and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of warranty and safety claim processes and related workflows.
- Familiarity with NHTSA regulations, VOQ reporting, and safety-related data analysis.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong organizational skills to manage priorities, documentation, and follow-up actions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Data Analytics is highly valued.
- Degree in Mathematics, Economics, or Engineering with strong engineering aptitude is also suitable.
- Experience in data analysis, data management, and data analytics within technical or engineering environments.
- Experience with warranty analysis and warranty claims data.
- Experience working with vehicle or automotive-related datasets is beneficial.
- Exposure to SQL-based data environments and advanced spreadsheet modeling.
- Ability to collaborate within a cross-functional environment that includes design, engineering, and quality teams.
- Comfort working in a consulting or long-term contract-to-hire arrangement.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raymond, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $37.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
