Job Title: Test Technician

Job Description

The Test Technician supports the testing, evaluation, and validation of circuit protection products used in automotive, industrial, and emerging technology applications. This role operates in both a standard electronics laboratory and a high-voltage testing laboratory, performing performance, environmental, and durability testing on fuses and related protection devices. The Test Technician applies strong electrical fundamentals and hands-on experience with laboratory test equipment to collect and analyze test data, document results, and collaborate closely with engineering teams to support product development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Execute electrical, performance, environmental, and durability testing on fuses and circuit protection products.
  • Set up and operate test circuits using DC power supplies and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Perform fuse performance testing and evaluate product behavior under various operating conditions.
  • Conduct environmental testing, including temperature cycling, fatigue testing, torque testing, and other reliability evaluations.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret test data, waveforms, and measurements to assess product performance.
  • Generate detailed test reports and clearly communicate findings and recommendations to engineering teams.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain data acquisition systems and laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable testing.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and provide technical feedback based on testing results and observations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, refine, and improve test methods and procedures.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and calibration checks on laboratory equipment to maintain test integrity.
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols, operating procedures, and documentation requirements while working in both standard and high-voltage lab environments.

Essential Skills

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong understanding of Ohm’s Law and its application in testing and troubleshooting.
  • Solid knowledge of series and parallel circuits and how they behave under different conditions.
  • Strong understanding of voltage, current, resistance, and power relationships in electrical circuits.
  • Experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing electrical circuits and test setups.
  • Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes for measuring and analyzing electrical waveforms.
  • Hands-on experience using digital multimeters for voltage, current, and resistance measurements.
  • Hands-on experience using DC power supplies to build and operate test circuits.
  • Hands-on experience using data acquisition systems to capture and record test data.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and circuit diagrams accurately.
  • Experience collecting, organizing, and documenting test data in a clear and structured manner.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical information clearly to engineering and cross-functional teams.
  • High attention to detail when conducting tests, recording data, and preparing reports.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as effectively within a team environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a product testing environment, electronics laboratory, or high-voltage laboratory.
  • Experience with circuit protection devices, including fuses and related protection components.
  • Experience with power electronics or automotive electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with environmental and reliability testing methodologies, such as temperature cycling and fatigue testing.
  • Interest in automotive and emerging technologies, particularly electric vehicles and advanced circuit protection solutions.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing and test environment that includes both a standard electronics laboratory and a high-voltage testing laboratory. The facility is described as very clean and state-of-the-art, with modern equipment and newly developed labs designed to simulate and test products used in electric vehicles. The role involves regular use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, DC power supplies, data acquisition systems, and other electronic test equipment. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Arlington Heights, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
