Waypoint Sierra Consultants is seeking a Space Mission Integration Engineer to support a U.S. Space Force program in El Segundo, California.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This early-career engineering position supports the procurement, development, testing, and integration of multi-manifest spacecraft carrying classified and unclassified spaceborne payloads. The engineer will coordinate technical and programmatic activities across payload developers, spacecraft providers, launch-vehicle teams, contractors, and government stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support spacecraft and payload procurement, development, test, and mission-integration activities.
• Coordinate technical interfaces among payloads, spacecraft, launch vehicles, ground systems, contractors, and government organizations.
• Review engineering documentation, requirements, interface-control information, test plans, schedules, and readiness products.
• Support spacecraft design reviews, integration activities, test events, mission planning, and launch-readiness reviews.
• Track technical risks, schedule dependencies, action items, and programmatic issues.
• Consolidate engineering and program information into clear findings and recommendations for government leadership.
• Prepare and deliver technical briefings to government and contractor stakeholders.
• Apply foundational knowledge of orbital mechanics, electrical systems, spacecraft operations, systems engineering, and space-system testing.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, systems, computer, or another relevant engineering discipline; physics or a closely related technical field may also qualify.
• At least two years of relevant aerospace or space-systems experience.
• Experience involving spacecraft or payload design, manufacturing, integration, test, mission operations, or launch integration.
• Foundational understanding of orbital mechanics, electrical engineering, spacecraft subsystems, and space-system operations.
• Familiarity with systems engineering and program-management practices, including requirements, schedules, risks, and technical reviews.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and coordinate information across multiple organizations.
• Strong written communication, presentation, and technical-briefing skills.
• Active DoD Top Secret security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship required due to security requirements.
• Ability to work in El Segundo, California.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience supporting the U.S. Space Force, Space Systems Command, another DoD space organization, or a national-security space contractor.
• Satellite or launch-vehicle integration experience.
• Spacecraft or payload test and verification experience.
• Familiarity with spacecraft acquisition, mission assurance, interface-control documents, MBSE, or technical readiness reviews.
• Experience with space-operations planning, rendezvous and proximity operations, or satellite propulsion and propellant systems.
• Experience presenting technical recommendations to government customers or senior leadership.
WORK ARRANGEMENT
The position is based in El Segundo and will initially require regular on-site work. After demonstrated effective job performance, a regular day-off schedule or limited hybrid flexibility may be available, subject to customer, security, and program requirements.
COMPENSATION
The anticipated salary range is $110,000-$145,000 annually, depending on qualifications, experience, and technical alignment.
