Cloud Platform Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Platform Engineer to support cloud modernization efforts for a federal customer. This position will focus on building, operating, and improving secure, reusable cloud platform capabilities using AWS, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, automation, and containerization.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience supporting secure AWS environments, developing repeatable infrastructure patterns, improving deployment workflows, and enabling engineering teams to deploy workloads more efficiently.
The Cloud Platform Engineer will collaborate with Cloud Engineers, Solutions Architects, Cybersecurity Professionals, and customer stakeholders to design, deploy, troubleshoot, secure, and continuously improve AWS-based platform services.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Cloud Engineers, Solutions Architects, Cybersecurity Professionals, and customer teams to manage, modernize, and secure AWS-based platforms supporting federal customers.
- Build, maintain, and improve reusable cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
- Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines supporting automated build, testing, security scanning, deployment, and release workflows.
- Assist application and engineering teams with onboarding workloads to platform services and standardized deployment patterns.
- Support containerized workload deployments using Docker, Amazon ECS, Amazon EKS, and AWS Fargate.
- Troubleshoot infrastructure, pipeline, container, networking, permissions, and deployment issues across development, test, and production environments.
- Develop scripts and automation to reduce manual operational activities and improve consistency, reliability, and delivery speed.
- Maintain platform capabilities supporting monitoring, logging, access control, configuration management, patching, and operational support.
- Partner with cybersecurity and compliance teams to ensure platform services and automation meet applicable security, governance, and federal customer requirements.
- Research and recommend tools, technologies, and engineering practices that improve platform reliability, automation, and developer experience.
- Create and maintain technical designs, deployment procedures, runbooks, reusable patterns, and operational documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, systems administration, infrastructure automation, or a related technical role.
- Current CompTIA Security+ certification, or ability to obtain Security+ within the first 60 days.
- Current AWS certification, or ability to obtain an AWS certification within the first 90 days.
Hands-on AWS experience with services such as:
- EC2
- S3
- IAM
- VPC
- Security Groups
- RDS
- EFS
- CloudWatch
- CloudTrail
- AWS Systems Manager
Experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or similar tools.
Experience developing, maintaining, or supporting CI/CD pipelines using technologies such as GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, or comparable platforms.
Hands-on experience with containerization technologies such as Docker, Amazon ECS, Amazon EKS, or AWS Fargate.
Scripting or automation experience using Shell/Bash, PowerShell, Python, or JavaScript.
Ability to produce results in an agile, fast-paced technical environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop clear technical documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
AWS Associate, Specialty, or Professional-level certification.
Experience creating reusable Terraform modules, remote state configurations, and workspaces.
Experience with Git-based development workflows, branching strategies, merge requests, pull requests, and code reviews.
Working knowledge of YAML and JSON.
Experience with automation and orchestration tools such as Ansible, Jenkins, GitLab, and AWS Systems Manager.
Experience with Kubernetes technologies such as Helm, ingress controllers, namespaces, and container registries.
Previous experience supporting secure federal environments governed by Public Trust, NIST, or similar compliance frameworks.
Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability technologies such as AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, OpenSearch, Prometheus, or Grafana.
Familiarity with AI/ML, generative AI, or AI-assisted development workflows.
Familiarity with Active Directory or LDAP.
RHEL, Linux, or Windows Server administration experience.

Actual compensation will depend on the selected candidate's experience, education, certifications, technical skills, and overall qualifications.
