We are looking for a Java Backend Developer to join a product engineering team. The engineer will design and build backend services and APIs using modern Java technologies and AI-assisted development practices.
\n
The role requires strong hands-on engineering skills and the ability to use AI coding assistants effectively for development, testing, debugging, documentation, and code modernization without compromising engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities
\n

- Design and develop backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices.
- Translate product requirements into technical designs and working software.
- Use AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot or equivalent, as part of day-to-day engineering.
- Apply AI assistance for:
- Code generation and refactoring
- Unit and integration test generation
- Code comprehension and documentation
- Debugging and root-cause analysis
- API development and boilerplate reduction
- Legacy code analysis and modernization
- Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, maintainability, and performance.
- Develop automated unit and integration tests.
- Integrate applications with APIs, databases, and messaging platforms.
- Participate in architecture, design, backlog refinement, and code reviews.
- Troubleshoot application, integration, and production issues.
- Mentor engineers on Java engineering and effective AI-assisted development practices.
- Own features from technical design through production deployment.

Required Skills
\n

- 7+ years of Java/backend development experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java 11/17+.
- Strong experience with Spring Boot and Spring Framework.
- Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, and clean-code practices.
- Experience with SQL and relational databases.
- Experience with JUnit, Mockito, or similar testing frameworks.
- Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
- Practical experience using AI coding assistants as part of software development.
- Ability to critically review AI-generated code rather than accepting generated output without validation.
- Strong debugging and production troubleshooting skills.
- Understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, exception handling, and API security.
