We are seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Senior Java Backend Engineer to join the Core Engineering team supporting Online Banking, Mobile Web, and API platforms for a leading financial services organization.
\n
This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, designing scalable systems, and taking ownership of solutions from initial architecture through production deployment.

The ideal candidate is someone who remains actively involved in coding while bringing strong system design capabilities, technical leadership, and the ability to drive solutions independently. Candidates from a variety of industries are encouraged to apply. Banking experience is not required.

Responsibilities:
\n

- Design, develop, test, and support scalable backend services and RESTful APIs.
- Build and maintain Java-based microservices using Spring Boot.
- Own technical solutions throughout the full development lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Lead technical discussions, evaluate architectural approaches, and make informed design decisions.
- Develop event-driven applications and distributed systems using Kafka and related technologies.
- Work with SQL, Oracle, and NoSQL databases to build reliable and scalable data solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues, identify performance bottlenecks, and resolve production incidents.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity while maintaining code quality and ownership.

Required Qualifications:
\n

- Strong hands-on experience with Java 11/17 or newer.
- Extensive experience developing applications using Spring Boot and REST APIs.
- Proven experience designing and building microservices and distributed systems.
- Strong understanding of system design, architecture, scalability, resiliency, and performance optimization.
- Experience working with SQL/Oracle and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with Kafka or other event-driven messaging platforms.
- Familiarity with containers and cloud-native platforms such as OpenShift or Kubernetes.
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
- Ability to independently drive technical solutions and make architectural recommendations.
- Experience troubleshooting, debugging, and supporting applications in production.
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, Codex, or similar tools.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly explain technical decisions and tradeoffs.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Exposure to front-end technologies such as React, Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, or CSS3.
