We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain complex, high-performance software systems supporting mission-critical applications. This role focuses on building scalable solutions using Python, Kubernetes, and modern DevOps practices, with additional work in C++ and exposure to RF-related systems.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in full lifecycle software development, cloud-native technologies, and Agile environments, along with the ability to lead technical efforts and mentor engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and enhance complex software systems based on mission and system requirements
- Develop backend services and applications using Python and C++
- Deploy and manage applications in containerized environments using Kubernetes
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and support automated deployment processes
- Utilize Git for version control and collaborate within Agile sprint-based development cycles
- Analyze user requirements to define system design and performance objectives
- Develop and optimize algorithms to meet system performance and functional requirements
- Debug and resolve software defects and performance issues
- Integrate software components into new or existing systems and environments
- Develop and execute test procedures and validate system performance
- Design and implement database queries and data processing logic
- Collaborate with system and hardware engineers to define system interfaces and requirements
- Evaluate software design trade-offs and recommend improvements
- Lead or support software development teams and ensure delivery aligns with project requirements
- Provide technical guidance and contribute to process improvements and best practices
Required Qualifications
- Must be fully cleared with a recent MD polygraph
- Must be willing and able to work fully onsite at the location listed in this posting
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 20+ years of experience as a Software Engineer in programs of similar scope and complexity
- Strong programming experience in Python
- Experience with Kubernetes (K8s) and containerized environments
- Experience using Git and working within CI/CD pipelines
- Experience working in Agile/Sprint-based development environments
- Experience with C++ development within the past 10 years
- Basic knowledge or exposure to RF systems or communications technologies
- Experience developing, testing, and maintaining complex software systems
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and performance optimization skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in distributed or cloud-native environments
- Experience leading development teams or mentoring junior engineers
- Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and automated deployment frameworks
