Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our high-end architectural millwork team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and profitable cost estimates for custom millwork projects including luxury residential, hospitality, commercial.
The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of millwork construction methods, materials, finishes, and production processes, and can translate architectural drawings and design intent into precise budgets and proposals.
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs for custom millwork components
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates including:
- Materials (hardwoods, veneers, laminates, hardware, specialty finishes)
- Labor (engineering, fabrication, finishing, installation)
- Subcontractors and specialty vendors
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes
- Identify value engineering opportunities while maintaining design integrity
- Prepare formal bid proposals and scope clarifications
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and shop team during handoff
- Maintain historical cost data and continuously improve estimating accuracy
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and client discussions as required
Experience/ Qualifications
- Experience as a Project Manager is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and shop drawings
- Proficiency with estimating software and Excel
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience in luxury residential or high-end commercial interiors
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar takeoff tools
- Knowledge of AWI standards
- Construction management or related degree (preferred but not required)
