Company Description
EvoTech, LLC is an Economically Disadvantaged Woman-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB) delivering program management, application development, cybersecurity, and IT solutions to federal government agencies and commercial clients. We are committed to advancing innovative technologies and fostering a culture of creativity. Guided by our vision to “Inspire the World, Create the Future,” we focus on building strategic partnerships and empowering great people.
Role Description
EvoTech is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to support application development efforts by improving software quality through test automation, CI/CD testing practices, validation, defect tracking, and technical collaboration with development teams. The ideal candidate will have hands-on professional experience working in an application development environment and will be able to create, maintain, and improve automated tests that support reliable software delivery.
This role requires more than general QA exposure. The SDET must understand how modern application development teams operate, including sprint-based development, code changes, builds, deployments, defect resolution, CI/CD pipelines, and automated regression testing. The candidate will work closely with developers, product owners, business analysts, DevOps, and QA stakeholders to improve release readiness, identify quality risks, and support repeatable testing practices across applications, APIs, workflows, integrations, and backend services.
Candidates must have prior professional experience working in an application development environment. Candidates with zero professional AppDev experience will not be considered.
This position may be on-site, hybrid, or remote based on business needs, contract requirements, and management discretion.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Create, maintain, and improve automated test scripts for applications, APIs, systems, integrations, and workflows.
-
Support application development teams by validating code changes, features, bug fixes, and system updates.

Perform manual, functional, regression, integration, API, and backend testing to validate features against requirements, acceptance criteria, and business rules.
-
Build and maintain automated regression tests to ensure new code changes do not negatively impact existing functionality.
-
Support CI/CD testing practices by integrating automated tests into build, deployment, and release pipelines.
-
Identify, document, and track defects with clear steps to reproduce, expected results, actual results, screenshots, logs, and supporting evidence.
-
Collaborate directly with developers to verify fixes, troubleshoot issues, and support timely resolution of software defects.
-
Assist with test planning, test coverage analysis, automation coverage, and release readiness validation.
-
Review requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications to determine testability and identify quality risks.
-
Communicate testing status, blockers, defect trends, and release risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
-
Support reliable software delivery through structured testing, automation, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
Technical/Functional Tasks
-
Develop and execute test cases, automated scripts, test data, and validation scenarios for web applications, APIs, backend services, and system workflows.
-
Support API testing, backend testing, database validation, system integration testing, and application workflow testing.
-
Create and maintain automated tests using tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Postman, JUnit, TestNG, or similar frameworks.

Support CI/CD pipelines by helping configure or maintain automated test execution within tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar platforms.
-
Validate application builds, deployments, bug fixes, enhancements, and release candidates.
-
Review code quality, test coverage gaps, recurring defects, and automation failures to recommend improvements.
-
Use defect tracking and project management tools to monitor testing activities, issue resolution, sprint progress, and release readiness.
-
Support performance, load, usability, or security-related testing activities as needed based on project requirements.
-
Assist with maintaining repeatable testing standards, automation coverage, QA documentation, and regression testing suites.
-
Analyze test results, troubleshoot automation failures, and distinguish between test script issues, environment issues, and application defects.
Collaboration & Documentation
-
Work closely with developers, product owners, business analysts, DevOps, QA stakeholders, and project leadership to improve software quality.
-
Participate in requirements reviews, sprint planning, backlog refinement, demonstrations, defect triage, retrospectives, and technical discussions.
-
Collaborate with developers to understand application logic, technical dependencies, code changes, and areas of testing risk.
-
Document test results, defect trends, testing risks, automation failures, and release readiness concerns.
-
Maintain accurate records of test cases, automated test scripts, defects, validation results, and testing activities.
-
Communicate testing status, blockers, risks, and recommendations in a clear and timely manner.
-
Collaborate across technical and business teams to ensure defects are understood, prioritized, validated, and resolved appropriately.
Continuous Improvement
-
Recommend improvements to test automation coverage, CI/CD testing practices, regression testing, defect tracking, and quality assurance processes.
-
Identify recurring application defects, testing gaps, unstable automation, and process issues that may affect release quality.
-
Support creation of repeatable testing standards, QA documentation, test data practices, and automation maintenance processes.
-
Stay current on testing tools, automation frameworks, AppDev practices, CI/CD methods, software quality approaches, and SDLC best practices.
