About the Role
We're seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to join a leading defense technology organization supporting advanced electronic warfare and warfighter systems programs. This role operates at an advanced technical level — leading requirements analysis, technical planning, systems-level design, integration, verification and validation, and risk management across the full product lifecycle, from concept through fabrication, test, and sustainment. You'll provide technical leadership to a multidisciplinary team developing electro-optical devices for warfighter systems.
This position offers relocation assistance, a sign-on bonus, and reimbursed travel for onsite interviews. We welcome candidates open to relocating to any of the above locations.
What You'll Do
- Lead a multidisciplinary sensor development team
- Lead development of the project lifecycle plan, including major milestones, reviews, and deliverables
- Develop, design, allocate, and manage user- and system-level requirements
- Lead development of system architecture
- Evaluate design tradeoffs and lead technical discussions across a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Define and assess interfaces with functional leads and outside organizations
- Lead technical reviews throughout the project lifecycle
- Provide oversight of verification and validation activities, including requirements traceability and compliance
- Support transition of products into manufacturing alongside operations and manufacturing engineering
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
- 8+ years of systems engineering experience
- Experience working within the aerospace or defense industry, delivering solutions to appropriate industry standards
- Experience with customer discovery and stakeholder needs/requirements
- Experience with requirements management, flow-down, and verification & validation across the product lifecycle
- Excellent communication skills with multidisciplinary engineering teams and government customers
- Experience providing technical leadership to multidisciplinary design teams (electrical, mechanical, optical, image science, software, firmware, or test engineers)
- Strong written (reports, proposals, white papers) and verbal (technical presentations) communication skills
Nice to Have
- Master's degree in Engineering
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), particularly Cameo
- Experience with VIS-NIR cameras
- INCOSE CSEP or ESEP certification
- Experience with electro-optical imaging systems — design, integration, and test
- Experience delivering compliant electro-optical imaging systems to customer requirements
