Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Data Center Technician (L3) with strong expertise in data center infrastructure, circuit auditing, fiber optic systems, cable remediation, and network connectivity validation.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience leading complex infrastructure audit and remediation activities within large-scale data center environments. This individual must be capable of independently identifying connectivity issues, performing root cause analysis, validating power and fiber paths, and driving corrective actions to ensure infrastructure reliability and operational excellence.
This role requires a technically strong professional who can take ownership of critical infrastructure projects, coordinate remediation activities, and provide technical guidance to other data center technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute end-to-end circuit audits across large-scale data center infrastructure.
- Perform circuit tracing, validation, identification, and remediation of connectivity issues.
- Conduct fiber optic installation, troubleshooting, testing, and maintenance.
- Perform OTDR testing and fiber certification to identify signal loss, breaks, and connectivity issues.
- Analyze and validate fiber pathways, cable routes, patch panels, and cross-connects.
- Identify cable discrepancies, incorrect connections, labeling issues, and infrastructure gaps.
- Perform power path analysis and validate infrastructure connectivity and redundancy.
- Troubleshoot complex fiber, copper, and network connectivity issues.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Lead infrastructure remediation projects and ensure completion within defined timelines.
- Maintain accurate circuit diagrams, cable schedules, audit reports, and infrastructure documentation.
- Coordinate with network engineering, facilities, operations, and other technical teams.
- Manage technical escalations, incident resolution, and change management activities.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to L1/L2 technicians.
- Ensure compliance with data center safety standards, operational procedures, and change control processes.
Required Technical Skills
1. Circuit Audit & Remediation
- Extensive experience in circuit auditing and infrastructure validation.
- Circuit tracing, mapping, labeling, and end-to-end connectivity verification.
- Experience identifying and correcting circuit discrepancies.
2. Fiber Optic Infrastructure
- Strong hands-on experience with fiber optic installation and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of single-mode and multimode fiber.
- Experience with fiber patch panels, connectors, cross-connects, and fiber pathways.
- Understanding of fiber polarity, continuity, attenuation, and signal loss.
3. Fiber Testing & Validation
- Hands-on experience using OTDR testing equipment.
- Experience with optical power meters and light sources.
- Ability to interpret OTDR traces and identify fiber faults.
- Experience performing fiber loss testing and validation.
4. Cable Management & Infrastructure
- Advanced knowledge of fiber and copper cable tracing.
- Cable identification, routing, labeling, and remediation.
- Experience with high-density data center cabling environments.
5. Power Path Analysis
- Understanding of data center power distribution and redundancy.
- Knowledge of A/B power feeds, PDUs, and power path validation.
- Ability to identify infrastructure and power connectivity discrepancies.
6. Technical Leadership & Troubleshooting
- Strong Root Cause Analysis (RCA) capabilities.
- Experience handling complex technical escalations.
- Ability to independently lead audit and remediation projects.
- Strong coordination, reporting, and technical documentation skills.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in data center infrastructure or critical infrastructure operations.
- Demonstrated experience working in a senior Data Center Technician, L3 Technician, or Lead Technician capacity.
- Proven experience with circuit audits, fiber troubleshooting, and large-scale cable remediation.
- Practical hands-on experience with OTDR and fiber testing tools.
- Experience independently managing infrastructure validation and remediation projects.
- Strong understanding of data center network connectivity and physical infrastructure.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and technical leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting hyperscale or enterprise data center environments.
- Experience with large-scale data center buildouts, migrations, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Fiber optic splicing and advanced fiber certification experience.
- Familiarity with structured cabling standards and infrastructure documentation tools.
- Previous experience leading technical teams or coordinating multi-site remediation projects.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is not a general Data Center Technician. We are specifically looking for a hands-on L3 Lead Technician who has independently managed complex circuit audits, fiber infrastructure validation, OTDR testing, cable tracing, and large-scale remediation activities.
Candidates must demonstrate strong technical ownership, advanced troubleshooting capabilities, and the ability to lead infrastructure projects without constant supervision.
