Overview
As Senior Fusion Splicer at KMM, you will perform high-precision ribbon and single fiber splicing, lead restoration cutovers, and validate fiber performance using OTDR and power meters. You’ll operate advanced splicing gear, maintain detailed documentation, and mentor junior technicians while ensuring all work meets stringent quality and safety standards.
KMM is hiring a Senior Fusion Splicer / Field Engineer III to lead advanced fiber splicing and testing operations across hyperscale and enterprise environments. This role demands expert-level proficiency in ribbon and single fiber splicing, OTDR testing, and restoration activities using Fujikura, AFL, and Viavi equipment. Candidates will serve as either independent field leads or second-in-command under the Splicing Manager, ensuring precision, safety, and documentation excellence across all deployments.
.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform advanced ribbon fusion splicing and testing to <0.02 dB standards
- Lead complex cutovers and fiber restoration activities
- Operate and maintain Fujikura, AFL, and Viavi gear
- Perform splicing, termination, and testing of fiber optic cables, ribbon and single fiber optic cables.
- Ensure all splicing meets quality standards and project specifications.
- Operate fusion splicing equipment and related fiber optic tools.
- Conduct fiber characterization, troubleshooting, and testing with OTDR and power meters
- Maintain accurate splicing documentation, labeling, and as-built records
- Follow all site safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and company protocols
- Produce complete test reports and documentation
- Mentor junior splicers and ensure procedural consistency
Qualifications
- 5–8 years in fusion splicing and OTDR testing
- Competent with Viavi Certifier40G, SmartOTDR, or equivalent
- BICSI Installer II Fiber or higher preferred
- Strong background in hyperscale or campus network builds
- Experience in fiber splicing, ribbon splicing and single cable splicing
- Familiar with data center labeling and cable management standards
- Hands-on proficiency with splicers, cleavers, and OTDR equipment
- Strong knowledge of fusion splicing, OTDR testing, and fiber optic standards
- Ability to read and interpret splicing diagrams, schematics, and work orders
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to travel nationwide
