Job Description

Position Summary

\n

MIB is seeking a hands-on Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to lead quality engineering activities within an Agile product team. This role owns the team’s test strategy and risk-based validation approach, builds and maintains automated test coverage, and partners with engineering, product, architecture, security, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable software and services to MIB Members.

\n

The successful candidate combines strong technical testing skills with sound judgment, clear communication, and a continuous-improvement mindset. The role is expected to influence quality throughout the software development lifecycle, coach team members on effective quality practices, and help the team prevent defects rather than relying only on end-of-cycle detection.

\n

Key Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • Develop and maintain an Agile, risk-based test strategy, including test plans, test cases, traceability, coverage matrices, and exit criteria aligned to acceptance criteria and business risk.
  • \n

  • Participate actively in Scrum or Kanban events, including refinement, planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, demonstrations, and retrospectives, and raise quality risks early.
  • \n

  • Design, implement, execute, and maintain automated API, UI, integration, and regression tests using approved frameworks such as Karate, Postman, Playwright, Selenium, and Cucumber.
  • \n

  • Integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and automated quality checks into CI/CD pipelines and use results to support release-readiness decisions.
  • \n

  • Define test-data requirements and support secure, repeatable test-data creation, masking, maintenance, and lifecycle management.
  • \n

  • Validate RESTful services, microservices, integrations, data transformations, and database behavior using JSON, XML, SQL, logs, and service observability data.
  • \n

  • Perform exploratory, functional, integration, end-to-end, regression, and production-verification testing as appropriate to the change and risk.
  • \n

  • Contribute to nonfunctional testing, including performance, resiliency, security, accessibility, compatibility, and compliance validation.
  • \n

  • Investigate failures, isolate root causes, document actionable defects, and partner with engineering teams through resolution and verification.
  • \n

  • Provide concise quality status, test evidence, defect trends, risk assessments, and release recommendations to delivery and business stakeholders.
  • \n

  • Support release deployments and production incidents, including validation, triage, and retrospective improvement actions.
  • \n

  • Promote shift-left and shift-right quality practices, reusable test assets, coding standards, peer review, and continuous improvement across Quality Services.
  • \n

  • Mentor less-experienced quality engineers and contribute to technical reviews, estimation, and quality engineering standards.
  • \n

\n

\n

Required Experience and Technical Skills

\n

    \n
  • 5–10 years of software quality engineering or software testing experience, including ownership of test activities for complex applications or services.
  • \n

  • Hands-on experience in Agile/Scrum or Kanban teams using Jira and Confluence, with practical knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD practices.
  • \n

  • Proficiency testing APIs and distributed services, including REST, JSON, XML, authentication/authorization flows, error handling, and contract validation.
  • \n

  • Hands-on automation experience with one or more modern frameworks such as Playwright, Karate, Selenium, Cucumber, JUnit, or Postman.
  • \n

  • Working knowledge of Java or another object-oriented programming language, source control with Git, and development tools such as IntelliJ IDEA or Eclipse.
  • \n

  • Ability to write and validate SQL queries and investigate data across applications, services, and databases.
  • \n

  • Experience with test management and defect tracking tools such as qTest, TestRail, Jira, or comparable platforms.
  • \n

  • Experience reviewing logs and telemetry and using evidence to troubleshoot failures across test and production-like environments.
  • \n

  • Clear written and verbal communication, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and demonstrated ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
  • \n

\n

\n

Preferred Experience

\n

    \n
  • Experience with AWS-hosted systems, microservices, containers, and cloud-native testing approaches.
  • \n

  • Experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or another CI/CD platform.
  • \n

  • Performance and load testing experience with tools such as JMeter or Gatling, including analysis of response time, throughput, and resource utilization.
  • \n

  • Experience with consumer-driven contract testing, and testing asynchronous or event-driven integrations.
  • \n

  • Familiarity with observability platforms and practices, including centralized logging, metrics, traces, dashboards, and alert validation.
  • \n

  • Knowledge of secure software development and testing practices, including OWASP risks, vulnerability remediation validation, and secrets/data handling.
  • \n

  • Experience testing accessibility against WCAG expectations and validating cross-browser or cross-device behavior where applicable.
  • \n

  • Experience with regulated or data-sensitive environments, particularly HIPAA, FCRA, SOC 2 controls, privacy, and audit-evidence requirements.
  • \n

  • Experience evaluating AI-assisted features or using AI-assisted testing tools responsibly, including validation of accuracy, privacy, bias, traceability, and human-review controls.
  • \n

  • CSQE, CSQA, ISTQB, AWS, security, or other relevant technical certification.
  • \n

\n

\n

Education

\n

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience. A master’s degree is a plus.

\n

\n

General Duties and Responsibilities

\n

  • \n

  • Build effective partnerships across MIB IT functions and business stakeholder groups.
  • \n

  • Ensure Quality Assurance is represented at the appropriate points throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • \n

  • Contribute to quality standards, engineering practices, reusable assets, process improvements, policies, and procedures.
