The GT Senior Project Engineer leads the engineering and design team and holds overall responsibility for successful technical project execution. This role serves as the primary technical liaison between engineering, project management, and the customer, ensuring that engineering, scheduling, and purchasing activities align with contractual obligations. The position requires strong expertise in gas turbine and gas turbine auxiliaries design and construction across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation and controls disciplines, with additional exposure to steam turbines, generators, and balance-of-plant systems considered highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering and design team to ensure successful technical execution of gas turbine and related power projects in accordance with contract obligations.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for EPC partners, owner’s engineers, and customers, interpreting and integrating design requirements in line with contract specifications.
- Demonstrate core competencies including being action oriented, driving change, focusing on customers, developing self and others, and taking ownership of outcomes.
- Plan, set up, and monitor project engineering systems, including project kick-offs, master document lists (MDLs), division of responsibility (DOR) documents, contract deviation lists, and inter-discipline workflows.
- Coordinate engineering activities across multiple disciplines and resolve cross-disciplinary technical and procedural issues in a timely manner.
- Translate contract requirements and scope of work into clear, actionable engineering deliverables for discipline teams, ensuring alignment with contractual and technical requirements.
- Monitor engineering schedules, budgets, and estimates through project completion, including conducting periodic reviews, planning and expediting activities, escalating critical action items, and preparing technical delivery status reports.
- Support Project Managers and Lead Project Engineers in tracking and assessing design changes, engineering change notices (ECNs), and contract deviations, including evaluating their impact on scope, schedule, and cost.
- Coordinate regularly with international affiliated companies to support effective engineering execution and on-time project delivery.
- Review and comment on project documents and drawings to ensure they comply with contractual document flow requirements and technical standards.
- Support equipment specification, bid evaluation, vendor selection, and capacity assessments for equipment sourced for gas turbine and combined cycle projects.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards for combustion turbines and auxiliary systems, including ANSI, AWS, API, ASTM, NFPA, and NEC.
- Collaborate with Global Sourcing, Quality Assurance, and Project Management teams to coordinate vendors and subcontractors throughout project execution.
- Support Application Engineering in reviewing and evaluating customer specifications in coordination with the parent company, as required.
- Track and resolve open technical and contractual items through project completion and into the warranty period, ensuring timely closure of outstanding issues.
- Demonstrate strong multitasking capabilities and facilitate effective multidisciplinary communication across engineering, sourcing, and project teams.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience with gas turbines, including hands-on exposure to gas turbine design, construction, or project execution.
- 10–20 years of directly related technical experience in engineering or power project execution.
- Demonstrated experience in project management within power or gas turbine projects, including coordination of engineering, scheduling, and procurement activities.
- Strong knowledge of gas turbine and gas turbine auxiliaries design and construction across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation and controls disciplines.
- Ability to interpret and integrate complex customer and contractual technical requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Proficiency with project management and office tools, including MS Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Visio, as well as the ability to create and interpret technical diagrams and flowcharts.
- Strong technical interpretation skills, with the ability to analyze complex instructions presented in mathematical or diagrammatic form and manage both abstract and practical variables.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering, sourcing, and project teams.
- Working knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards for combustion turbines and auxiliary systems, including ANSI, AWS, API, ASTM, NFPA, and NEC.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
- Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
- Familiarity with steam turbine, generator, and balance-of-plant (BOP) design and construction.
- Experience with SP3D and other 3D design tools such as SmartPlant or PDMS.
- Knowledge of ISO procedures and OSHA safety requirements.
- International business experience, including collaboration with global teams.
- Experience supporting equipment specification, bid evaluation, and vendor selection for gas turbine and combined cycle projects.
- Experience working with EPC partners, owner’s engineers, and customer technical teams.
- Demonstrated ability to champion change, maintain a strong customer focus, and take ownership of project outcomes while developing self and others.
Work Environment
The role operates in a project-focused engineering environment that emphasizes collaboration across engineering, sourcing, quality, and project management functions. You will work extensively with gas turbine and combined cycle technologies, including combustion turbines, auxiliary systems, and balance-of-plant equipment. The position involves regular use of project management and productivity tools such as MS Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Visio, as well as 3D design platforms like SP3D, SmartPlant, or PDMS. You will interact frequently with EPC partners, owner’s engineers, vendors, and international affiliates, requiring clear communication and coordination across different time zones and cultures. The work environment adheres to ISO procedures and OSHA safety requirements and emphasizes compliance with established engineering codes and standards. The role may involve a mix of office-based design and coordination work, virtual meetings with global teams, and periodic visits to vendor facilities or project sites as required by project needs.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
