Senior Business / Data Analyst - Austin, TX
iSphere is looking for a Senior Business / Data Analyst for an 11+ month hybrid opportunity supporting the Austin/San Antonio area. Candidates need to live locally.
This role sits right in the middle of business analysis and data analysis, so the client needs someone who can work comfortably on both sides. You will spend time with business stakeholders figuring out what they actually need, then get into the data yourself to validate it, profile it, map it, and make sure the technical teams have something they can actually build from.
You will work as the liaison between the business and IT teams across architecture, project delivery, application support, data engineering, and reporting. A big part of the job is turning conversations, pain points, and business rules into clear requirements, process flows, data definitions, KPIs, and source-to-target mappings.
This is not a BA role where SQL means "I can run the query someone else wrote." The client wants someone who can write complex SQL, work directly against relational databases, investigate data issues, validate results, and understand enough about the underlying data to know when something does not make sense.
What we need:

8+ years of Business Analyst or Business Data Analyst experience in large enterprise IT environments

Strong hands-on SQL experience, including complex joins, aggregations, validation, profiling, and ad hoc analysis

Experience gathering and documenting business requirements through workshops, interviews, and facilitated sessions

Experience creating BRDs, functional requirements, data requirements, business rules, and technical documentation

Strong experience documenting current-state and future-state business processes and data flows

Experience with data profiling, validation, source-to-target mapping, data definitions, and data lineage

Experience defining business measures, KPIs, report requirements, and data sourcing needs

Experience performing gap analysis between current processes and desired future-state solutions

Experience supporting UAT, including developing test scenarios and test cases from documented requirements

Strong communication and facilitation skills with the ability to work across business and technical teams

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience
State government or other large enterprise environments with formal SDLC processes would be especially helpful.
Project management experience is a plus, and a PMP will definitely get our attention.
The strongest person for this role will know when to stay in the business conversation and when it is time to open SQL and prove what the data is actually doing. You should be comfortable asking detailed questions, challenging assumptions, and making sure the business requirement, the data, and the technical solution all line up before the work moves forward.
