Job Description

Join Us as a Pre‑K Lead Teacher at YWCA of Binghamton!
Are you passionate about nurturing young minds and making a real impact in your community? At the YWCA of Binghamton & Broome County, our mission is to eliminate racism, empower women and children, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all—a legacy we’ve upheld for over 125 years.

As a Pre‑K Lead Teacher in our Young Wonders Early Childhood Center, you’ll be on the frontlines of shaping confident, compassionate learners. Our center’s vision is to nurture confident and secure future adults through trusted educarers who take a culturally relevant and reflective approach, ensuring every child feels seen and supported.

In this role you will report to both the Director and Assistant Director of the Young Wonders Early Childhood Center and focus on the following:

  • Offer a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of both the individual and the group.
  • Interact with the children and encourage their involvement in activities.
  • Prepare a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing, and encourages the child to grow and to explore.
  • Use daily, weekly and monthly lesson plans using the Creative Curriculum by Teaching Strategies to develop and carry out a balanced and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Work cooperatively with other teachers and center staff members.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate staff on an ongoing basis and in line with Developmentally Appropriate Practice, OCFS regulations and center policies and procedures.
  • Encourage parent and family involvement by establishing and maintaining good communication both informally (through conversations/messages) and formally (through Conferences, shared resources, inclusive center events, etc.)
  • Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behavior.
  • Complete quarterly assessments on all children and use assessment data to plan individual and group classroom goals.
  • Use appropriate and positive discipline techniques.
  • Maintain necessary records and files.
  • Keep staff informed of program goals and developments both with children, parents, and administration.
  • Develop appropriate relationships with children of diverse backgrounds by treating all children with dignity and respect and by considering the child in relationship to his or her cultural and socio-economic background.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in service training, conferences, etc. as necessary.
  • Manage toileting needs of children including changing diapers if necessary.
  • Act as Program Director or Assistant Director’s designee as assigned.
  • Any other tasks or duties in which the job requires.

If you're ready to educate with purpose, align your teaching with a powerful mission, and support Binghamton families during their most formative years, we invite you to inspire the next generation of changemakers at the YWCA.
