Supervisor Title:
General Manager, Americas
Position Summary
The Analytics Engineer is a hands-on technical partner supporting Canyon Bicycles USA’s direct-to-consumer (DTC) cycling business. Reporting to the General Manager, Americas, this vrole builds and deploys practical data tools, automations, and measurement solutions across Canyon Bicycles USA — with initial priority on Brand & Marketing and Commercial Excellence, expanding to Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, and HR People over time.
The position complements Canyon’s global BI infrastructure by acting as a fast-moving local activation layer. Rather than rebuilding foundational data structures, the Analytics Engineer consumes and enriches global BI data assets, then delivers lightweight, purpose-built tools and analyses that answer immediate business questions. Work intake and prioritization are governed by the domestic Change Board to ensure a single, transparent queue across competing functional needs.
This position reports to the General Manager, Americas on an interim basis while the leadership team assesses the optimal departmental alignment and long-term reporting structure for the function. Day-to-day work intake, prioritization, and sequencing are governed by the domestic Change Board throughout this period, and the reporting line will be reviewed and confirmed as part of that assessment. As Canyon USA transitions from turnaround into growth, this role is central to improving the quality and speed of forecasting, planning, and day-to-day decision-making. The successful candidate is given clear mandate and autonomy to identify and remove internal operational bottlenecks and customer-facing digital friction, using modern development and AI-assisted engineering practices to compress delivery timelines.
Summary of Role and Responsibilities
- Identify & Eradicate Friction: Proactively audit internal workflows and the customer journey to identify procedural, operational, and digital bottlenecks; design and execute rapid, data-backed solutions to eliminate them.
- Rapid Problem Solving & Tool Deployment: Build, test, and rapidly deploy AI-considered data solutions, utilities, and lightweight dashboards (utilizing Python, HTML, CSS, and AI tools) designed to solve immediate operational bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with Global BI as a Regional Accelerator: Act as a local touchpoint to the global BI and digital departments. Work in harmony with enterprise data standards, consuming and enriching core data assets for local application without duplicating central warehouse efforts.
- Govern Local Intake via the Change Board: Act as the technical point of contact for the domestic Change Board, helping prioritize, scope, and rapidly execute local data enablement requests from Marketing, Commercial, Finance, HR, and Operations.
- Orchestrate AI-Native Development: Serve as the technical pilot for agentic development workflows (using tools like Claude Code) to build, test, and deploy lightweight, localized tools and automated pipelines at high velocity.
- Empower Cross-Functional Teams with Targeted Utilities:
- Marketing & Commercial: Build quick-turn diagnostic views for campaign performance, conversion rate optimization (CRO) tests, and customer acquisition (CAC) variance. Maintain models linking early demand-formation signals (like PDP views and brand search) to downstream revenue realizations.
- Finance & Operations: Create lightweight, automated trackers for local margin fluctuations (CMIII), unit economics, returns bottlenecks, and warehouse throughput.
- HR: Develop fast, automated reporting templates for local recruitment funnels and retention dashboards.
- Translate Data into Immediate Answers: Maintain a clean, "answer-first" presentation layer over localized data, transforming complex metrics and fragmented views into clear business insights.
- Foster Regional Data Maturity: Partner closely with team members across all departments to elevate data literacy and encourage self-service data utilization.
Core Skillset & Technical Competencies:
- AI-Native Prototyping: Mastery of using agentic developer tools to rapidly write code, automate processes, and build functional internal tools or scripts, drastically compressing development timelines.
- Collaborative System Navigator: A team-first approach to working alongside a central global BI department, understanding how to respect enterprise boundaries while delivering high-velocity local value.
- DTC & eCommerce Literacy: Intrinsic understanding of digital transaction engines, e-commerce funnels, retail unit economics, and high-consideration consumer journeys.
- Agile Problem-Solving: A strong bias for action and immediate utility—valuing elegant, quick-to-deploy, localized solutions over heavy, slow enterprise software builds.
- Broad Data Literacy & Lightweight Integration: Ability to quickly extract and merge data from varied sources (GCP/BigQuery, local files, external APIs, and global reporting tools) to solve immediate business problems.
- Financial & Variable Cost Math: Intrinsic knowledge of retail unit economics, blended acquisition mechanics, and margin management. Must be comfortable hard-coding operational guardrails based on category Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC), Blended Media Efficiency Ratio (MER), and Contribution Margin (CMIII) bands.
- Modern Development Basics: Practical capability in Python (for automated scripting and data processing) and frontend presentation basics (HTML/CSS) to build clean, functional user tools.
- Clear Systems Communication: The ability to distill complex analytical logic into clear, simple business conclusions that the GM and functional leaders can act on instantly.
Preferred Education & Professional Background
- Experience Runway: 4+ years of technical experience in business intelligence, data engineering, or a highly technical operations role. Experience collaborating within a matrixed corporate structure alongside a central IT or BI function is highly valued.
- Industry Context: Experience in a fast-paced DTC, e-commerce, or retail environment (ideally cycling, outdoor lifestyle, or sporting goods) is highly preferred.
- Educational Foundation: A Master’s degree in a quantitative/technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Analytics, Economics, Finance, Information Systems) OR proven equivalent practical experience deploying production-grade code and lightweight data solutions
- AI Adaptability Profile: A proven track record of shifting toward AI-accelerated engineering practices to maximize individual output and dramatically compress tool delivery timelines.
