The engineering team is responsible for developing the software, infrastructure, and internal platforms that enable the business to operate securely, reliably, and at scale.

We are seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to serve as a senior technical leader within a growing engineering organization. This role will have broad ownership across backend systems, cloud infrastructure, data platforms, third-party integrations, and customer-facing applications, with a primary focus on backend development in Python.

This is a highly hands-on individual contributor role for an engineer who can operate effectively at both the architectural and implementation levels. You will lead complex, cross-functional technical initiatives, help define engineering standards and architectural direction, and serve as a trusted technical partner to engineering, product, and business stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating ambiguity, making pragmatic architectural decisions, and taking ownership of systems throughout their lifecycle—from initial design and development through deployment, production operations, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
\n

- Provide technical leadership for the architecture, development, and ongoing evolution of backend services and APIs supporting financial products and transaction-driven workflows.
- Design and build production-grade software primarily in Python, with Django experience highly valued.
- Lead the technical direction of significant engineering initiatives, translating business requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
- Design, deploy, and operate scalable cloud infrastructure using AWS.
- Own complex technical projects from initial requirements and architectural design through implementation, deployment, monitoring, and optimization.
- Develop and maintain integrations with financial institutions, payment providers, vendors, and other external services.
- Design scalable data models, service architectures, and system patterns capable of supporting increasing transaction volumes and evolving business requirements.
- Partner with frontend engineers and contribute to React and TypeScript applications when needed.
- Identify and drive improvements in system performance, reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.
- Establish and strengthen engineering practices around automated testing, observability, logging, monitoring, incident response, and deployment.
- Participate in and help lead system architecture discussions, technical planning, design reviews, code reviews, and production troubleshooting.
- Define reusable technical patterns, engineering standards, and best practices that can be adopted across the organization.
- Evaluate technical tradeoffs and make pragmatic decisions that balance immediate product requirements with long-term maintainability, reliability, scalability, and cost.
- Serve as a senior technical resource and thought partner for engineers across the organization, helping raise engineering quality and consistency.
- Identify architectural risks and opportunities proactively and influence the technical roadmap accordingly.

Qualifications
\n

- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building, scaling, and operating production systems.
- Strong Python development skills and extensive backend engineering experience; Django experience is a significant plus.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, API design, service-oriented architecture, and data modeling.
- Production experience with PostgreSQL and AWS.
- Familiarity with React and TypeScript and the ability to contribute effectively across the technology stack.
- Experience designing and operating highly available, cloud-based distributed applications.
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead substantial, ambiguous technical initiatives from architecture and design through production deployment and ongoing operation.
- Strong understanding of scalability, performance, reliability, testing, observability, security, and software architecture.
- Experience influencing technical direction and engineering practices beyond the scope of an individual project or team.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities evolve and engineers are expected to exercise significant ownership, judgment, and autonomy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Compensation
\n
Base Salary: $265,000 – $305,000
