Location: New York City, NY — Onsite
Assignment Length: 1 Year contract
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week
Start Date: November 2, 2026
Pay Rate: $30-32/hr, DOE
*This position is a W2 position only. You must be authorized to work in the US for the duration of the contract term

Position Overview

We are seeking a Service Desk Technician to provide hands-on technical support to employees across a large public-sector organization. This position is responsible for supporting end users, maintaining computing equipment and software, troubleshooting technology issues, and ensuring staff can effectively and securely leverage the organization's technology environment.

The successful candidate will provide support through telephone, email, ticketing systems, remote assistance, and in-person interactions. This is an onsite position in New York City with occasional support for remote locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier 1/Tier 2 end-user support via telephone, email, ticketing system, remote assistance, and in person.

  • Support approved business applications and platforms, including Microsoft 365, Windows, Salesforce, SharePoint, Webex, Jira, and other enterprise applications.

  • Assist users with booking, configuring, setting up, and launching webinars and virtual meetings.

  • Provide technical support for audiovisual equipment and technology issues in conference rooms.

  • Configure, deploy, troubleshoot, and support computing hardware, including:

    • Laptops and desktops

    • Zero and thin clients

    • Chromebooks

    • Mobile devices

    • Related peripherals and accessories

  • Support virtual machine pools and coordinate with Network Operations to ensure environments remain current, secure, and operational.

  • Perform user account management tasks, including password resets, access requests, permissions, and related account support.

  • Maintain accurate and current hardware and asset inventories and conduct regularly scheduled equipment audits.

  • Monitor software licensing requirements and coordinate with management on additional licensing needs and procurement.

  • Maintain an inventory of configured loaner computing devices and assist users with their reservation and proper operation.

  • Train end users on the safe, secure, efficient, and appropriate use of supported devices, software, equipment, and services.

  • Configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and support mobile devices.

  • Serve as a primary and secondary point of contact with technology vendors supporting Service Desk hardware and services, including Webex, mobile phones, audiovisual equipment, computer hardware, and Service Desk software.

  • Maintain an adequate supply of configured and updated computing hardware, peripherals, and accessories for new hires and break/fix requirements.

  • Move, install, configure, and set up technology equipment for new employees and employee relocations.

  • Review potentially suspicious or malicious emails for indicators of phishing or scams and escalate appropriate incidents to the Information Security team.

  • Provide technical support to remote organizational locations in New York State through both onsite and remote support.

  • Research emerging information technology trends and identify opportunities to apply new technologies to organizational goals and objectives. You must provide white glove services to the end client based on who will be supported in this job.

  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the organization's technology and business objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system and desktop support.

  • Working knowledge of core networking concepts, including IP addressing, DHCP, and DNS.

  • Experience with computer hardware deployment, imaging, and configuration.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Working knowledge of Active Directory administration and support.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365 and common desktop applications.

  • Experience working effectively both independently and as part of a technical support team.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience working with a help desk or IT service management ticketing system.

  • Ability to lift and handle equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to desk height.

  • Experience with IT asset management and inventory control.

  • Experience supporting and managing mobile devices.

  • Experience with PowerShell or another scripting language.

  • Experience creating and managing technical or operational reports.

  • Experience providing technical support to users who are traveling, working remotely, or operating away from standard organizational equipment.

  • Experience providing end-user technical training.

  • Technical writing and documentation experience.

Education & Experience

Candidates should meet one of the following:

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Degree in an unrelated field plus one year of directly related IT experience.

  • Three years of relevant IT experience in lieu of a degree.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a customer-focused IT professional who combines strong troubleshooting skills with excellent communication and organizational abilities. The candidate should be comfortable working directly with end users, managing multiple support requests, handling hardware and software deployments, documenting solutions, and collaborating with internal technology teams and external vendors.

This role requires someone who can work independently while also contributing effectively to a team and who is comfortable providing hands-on technical support in a fast-paced, onsite environment.
