Job Description

This position involves 75% travel within Colorado and nationwide. Candidates can work from anywhere in the US with no relocation required. However, if you prefer to relocate to Colorado, we do offer relocation assistance.

This is hands-on generation protection specialist to independently execute generator relay testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting. This is not an entry-level secondary-injection position. The successful candidate will understand complete protection schemes, diagnose complex field issues, coordinate safely with plant personnel, and help strengthen PTG's generation testing service capabilities.

Required Qualifications

At least seven years of progressively responsible protection and control testing or commissioning experience, with substantial hands-on generator protection exposure.
Documented experience on operating or newly commissioned generation facilities and ability to lead assignments without continuous supervision.
Strong knowledge of ANSI protection functions, fault response, relay logic, control circuits, and generator/transformer protection fundamentals.
Demonstrated skill with numerical relay software and one or more commercial secondary injection test platforms.
Ability to safely perform troubleshooting and functional trip verification under customer-approved procedures.
Working knowledge of applicable NETA practices and NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements.
Strong technical writing, customer communication, and field leadership skills; valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.

Preferred Qualifications

NETA Level III or IV, or NICET Electrical Power Testing Level III or IV.
Experience in combined-cycle, conventional thermal, gas turbine, steam turbine, or hydroelectric plants.
Advanced experience with SEL generator protection, GE Multilin G60, Basler systems, or comparable generator protection platforms.
Familiarity with excitation/AVR interfaces, generator grounding and protection coordination, and generator step-up transformer schemes.
Experience reviewing settings calculations and using ETAP, SKM, ASPEN OneLiner, or related analysis software.
Previous experience leading commissioning teams, developing technical procedures, or providing customer-facing specialist support.
