Pay: $26.00 - $31.00

Position Overview
- We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Estimator to support commercial, industrial, and manufacturing-related HVAC and plumbing projects. This individual will be responsible for analyzing project plans, specifications, and customer requirements to develop accurate cost estimates, equipment selections, budget pricing, and proposal packages.
- The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with contractors, engineers, project managers, and internal stakeholders. Preferred Educational Background
- Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in HVACR Engineering Technology and Energy Management from Ferris State University are highly preferred. Individuals who have completed this program often possess the technical foundation, systems knowledge, and practical application experience that aligns well with the requirements of this role.
- Equivalent education and relevant HVAC/plumbing estimation experience will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Project Estimation & Proposal Development
- Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, engineering documents, and customer requirements.
- Perform detailed material, equipment, and labor takeoffs for HVAC and plumbing projects.
- Prepare accurate project estimates, quotations, and budget proposals.
- Evaluate project scope and identify potential risks, cost-saving opportunities, and value-engineering solutions.
- Develop preliminary equipment selections and budget pricing for customers and project teams.
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders throughout the bidding process.
- Support design-build, design-assist, and plan/specification projects.
- Assist with bid preparation, proposal reviews, and project handoff meetings.
Technical Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems to support equipment selection and estimating activities.
- Size and select appropriate HVAC and plumbing equipment based on project requirements.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, schedules, and submittal documents.
- Compile and organize equipment submittals, technical documentation, and product cut sheets.
- Utilize estimating software, manufacturer selection software, and ERP/business systems to generate accurate pricing and proposals.
- Maintain current knowledge of HVAC technologies, energy-efficient systems, plumbing products, and industry best practices.
Collaboration & Customer Support
- Partner closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and sales teams to ensure project requirements are met.
- Provide technical support and recommendations throughout the estimating process.
- Assist customers with budget development and equipment selection decisions.
- Participate in project review meetings and support overall business objectives.
- Foster strong working relationships with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate project records and estimating documentation.
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Occasionally travel to customer sites, project meetings, or training events as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, HVACR, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent relevant experience.
- 2+ years of estimating experience supporting HVAC, plumbing, mechanical construction, building systems, or related projects (will consider recent graduates from HVACR program @ Ferris State University).
- Strong understanding of HVAC and plumbing system components and applications.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and project specifications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PDF software.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree from Ferris State University, particularly the HVACR Engineering Technology and Energy Management BS Program.
- Experience estimating commercial, industrial, manufacturing, institutional, or healthcare facility projects.
- Experience with HVAC equipment selection software and estimating platforms.
- Knowledge of hydronic systems, pumps, boilers, chillers, air handling equipment, and plumbing systems.
- Exposure to design-build and design-assist project environments.
- Familiarity with energy-efficient and sustainable building systems.
