Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design, deploy, optimize, secure, and support enterprise infrastructure across on-premises, cloud, data center, and multi-site branch environments. Serving as a senior technical lead, this role oversees Microsoft technologies, networking, virtualization, identity management, cloud integration, and core IT services to ensure our systems remain resilient, secure, redundant, and aligned with enterprise standards.

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer collaborates cross-functionally across the broader IT organization—including Infrastructure, Service Desk, Cybersecurity, Business Systems, Applications, PMO, and Leadership. You will share technical expertise, invite diverse technical perspectives, communicate effectively across technical and non-technical teams, and help prevent operational knowledge silos.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Strategy & Operations: Lead the architecture, vendor selection, deployment, lifecycle management, optimization, and ongoing maintenance of enterprise infrastructure solutions.
  • Microsoft & Cloud Ecosystem: Act as the primary technical subject matter expert for Microsoft identity, cloud, security, and directory services—including Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Defender, Azure, AAD Connect, SSO, ADFS, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and certificate services.
  • Network & Security Engineering: Design, deploy, harden, and support enterprise LAN, WAN, WLAN, VLAN, SD-WAN, routing, switching, VPN, firewall, IDS/IPS, and QoS technologies, with a strong focus on Cisco Meraki platforms.
  • Troubleshooting & Optimization: Perform advanced network packet analysis, root-cause diagnostics, performance tuning, system monitoring, and capacity planning across networks, servers, and cloud resources.
  • Telecommunications Management: Oversee ISP and telecom operations, including vendor management, circuit installations, upgrades, renewals, outage escalations, SLA tracking, billing validation, failover testing, and documentation.
  • Systems & Data Protection: Administer and optimize Windows Server, VMware vSphere/ESXi, enterprise storage, backup systems, disaster recovery, and high-availability frameworks (specifically using solutions like VEEAM and Synology).
  • Integrations & Migrations: Plan and execute infrastructure integrations for cloud IaaS/SaaS adoption, M&A activities, tenant-to-tenant migrations, complex multi-forest trusts, and hybrid identity models.
  • Automation & Scripting: Drive operational efficiency, consistency, and automated patching/management using PowerShell, PowerShell DSC, and modern configuration management tools.
  • Security & Endpoint Management: Partner with Cybersecurity to evaluate risk, remediate vulnerabilities, and enforce security baselines. Support Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, conditional access, MFA, and modern endpoint policy migrations.
  • Data Integration & EDI Support: Assist with EDI infrastructure platforms (e.g., OpenText, Cleo LexiCom), coordinating with third-party vendors and internal application teams to resolve service issues.
  • Project Delivery & PMO Collaboration: Partner with project managers to establish technical requirements, estimate effort, manage dependencies, and deliver projects on schedule.
  • Knowledge Management: Maintain authoritative infrastructure documentation, topology diagrams, and standard operating procedures within a SharePoint knowledge base to ensure information is current, searchable, and shared across support teams.
  • ITSM & Team Mentorship: Adhere to established change-management and IT Service Management (ITSM) workflows. Participate in an off-hours on-call rotation and mentor team members to foster a culture of shared learning.
  • Field Support & Travel: Travel to regional branch locations as needed for network refreshes, circuit cutovers, wireless upgrades, acquisitions, or critical incident resolution.

Required Education & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive infrastructure, network, or systems engineering experience in complex enterprise environments.
  • Proven Track Record: Hands-on experience designing, scaling, and maintaining multi-site, enterprise-grade on-premise and cloud infrastructure. Demonstrated involvement in M&A integrations, cloud migrations, and cross-functional project execution.
  • Certifications (Preferred): Active CCNA, CCNP, Cisco Meraki, Microsoft/Azure, VMware, or ITIL credentials.

Technical Skills

  • Networking & Hardware: Deep understanding of TCP/IP, OSI model, BGP, OSPF, Spanning Tree, SD-WAN, QoS, firewalls, VPNs, and enterprise Wi-Fi. Hands-on experience with Cisco Meraki, along with exposure to Cisco CLI, Aruba, or comparable networking hardware.
  • Microsoft & Virtualization: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Azure/AWS, Windows Server, VMware vSphere/ESXi, and hybrid directory architecture.
  • Automation & Endpoint: Proficiency with PowerShell scripting and configuration management tools. Experience managing Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, Defender, conditional access, and MFA policies.
  • Continuity & Documentation: Experience managing enterprise backups, disaster recovery strategies, monitoring systems, and ISP/carrier failovers. Demonstrated skills managing technical documentation within SharePoint and creating system topologies using Microsoft Visio.

Core Competencies

  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaboration & Ownership: Highly collaborative team player with strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
  • Work Management: Ability to manage competing operational priorities independently while maintaining transparency, quality, and accountability.
  • Service Mindset: Familiarity with ITIL processes and a strong commitment to operational continuity, security compliance, and minimal business disruption.
